Triumph Plans To Rename Street Twin, Street Scrambler
Highlights
- Triumph Street Twin to be renamed Triumph Speed Twin 900
- Triumph Street Scrambler to be renamed Triumph Scrambler 900
- The name changes are likely to be carried out worldwide across the range
Triumph Motorcycles is planning to rename its popular Street Twin and Street Scrambler models, to bring them more in line with their bigger 1,200 cc counterparts, the Speed Twin and Scrambler 1200. According to reports, Triumph has filed certification documents in Australia, renaming the Street Twin as the Speed Twin 900, and changing the Street Scrambler to Scrambler 900. Triumph's newest full-size adventure bike, the new Triumph Tiger 1200 was also renamed from Tiger Explorer to simplify the model naming convention.

Although the documents have been filed in Australia, the name changes are expected to be carried out worldwide. The bigger Speed Twin is also likely to be renamed as Speed Twin 1200, although the latest documents doesn't list any name change for the Speed Twin. The changes in the names are seen as a move to simplify model names. So, a customer can look at upgrading from a Scrambler 900 to a Scrambler 1200, and the same can be expected for the Speed Twin 900 with a new name change request for the "Speed Twin 1200."

With the renaming of these models, the only model with the "Street" name will be the Street Triple. While the bigger, litre-class naked is called the Speed Triple 1200, there's no word yet, whether Triumph intends to do away completely with the Street name, and maybe replace the Street Triple with a "Speed Triple 765" moniker. That would not only tidy up the model names in Triumph's current range, but also free up the "Street" name. Could it be then used for a smaller upcoming model from Triumph? Now, that has got us thinking; perhaps the upcoming made-in-India Bajaj-Triumph roadsters could get the "Street" name, considering it already has recognition and brand equity as a Triumph.
