Highlights

While hatchbacks and SUVs continue to dominate the Indian car market, there is still a considerable demand for MPVs or multi-purpose vehicles. That is because, India is a country of large families, and they like to travel together. And then there is the intercity taxi service which also requires spacious people-movers. In fact, as per Jato Dynamics India's market trend data, MPVs still hold a volume share of over 10 per cent in India. So, if you too are planning to buy an MPV, but looking for something on a tight budget, then we would suggest looking for one in the used car market.

Here are 5 pre-owned MPVs that we think you should consider buying:

    Toyota Innova Crysta

Based on the model year and condition of the car, you can get a used Innova Crysta for anywhere between Rs. 12 lakh to Rs. 22 lakh.

The Toyota Innova defines the MPV segment in India and is possibly the most popular model in this segment. The MPV was first introduced in 2005 and was later replaced by its second-gen avatar the Innova Crysta. While you can still get a used first-gen Innova for anywhere between Rs. 3 lakh to Rs. 10 lakh, depending on the model year and condition, however, we'd suggest looking for the Innova Crysta. It's been in the market for around 7 years now, so there won't be any dearth of options, and you can get one for around Rs. 12 lakh to Rs. 22 lakh.

    Mahindra Marazzo

Depending on the model year and condition of the vehicle, you can get a used Marazzo for anywhere between Rs. 7 lakh to Rs. 12 lakh.

The Mahindra Marazzo is one of the more underrated cars in its category. The MPV is quite capable and one of the safest options in its class, with a 4-star safety rating from the Global NCAP. The Mahindra Marazzo is well-built, comes with a spacious interior, and a frugal 1.5-litre diesel engine. Depending on the model year and condition of the vehicle, you can get a used Marazzo for anywhere between Rs. 7 lakh to Rs. 12 lakh.

    Maruti Suzuki Ertiga

While the Innova is certainly the more popular MPV, when it comes to volumes, it's the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga that takes the lead as the best-selling vehicle in its class. The Ertiga was first introduced in 2012 and received a generation upgrade in 2018, followed by a facelift in 2022. So yes, the MPV has been in the market for around a decade now and getting hold of a used Ertiga in a good condition won't be a problem at all.

    Renault Lodgy

The Renault Lodgy is quite a capable choice if you are looking for a spacious and fun-to-drive MPV. It's built on the sale platform as the Duster, and thus comes with good driving dynamics and an engaging 1.5-litre diesel engine with a 6-speed manual gearbox. The Lodgy MPV was launched in 2015 and was discontinued in 2018, having a limited run of about 3 years. However, you can still find several options in the used car market, and depending on the condition you can get a used one for Rs. 3 lakh to Rs. 7 lakh.

    Mahindra Xylo

The Mahindra Xylo has been a very popular option in the MPV space, and while it was replaced by the Marazzo, you can still find thousands of options in the used car space. Its two biggest USPs were its spacious cabin and its powerful, yet efficient diesel engine. It can easily fit up to 7 adults, and all of them will be comfortable even during a long journey. The Xylo was introduced in 2009 and was discontinued in 2019, but you can get a used one for anywhere between Rs. 3.5 lakh to Rs. 7 lakh, depending on the model year and condition of the vehicle.
