Tata Kite 5 Sub-Compact Sedan Will Be Competitively Priced

- The Tata Kite5 shares its underpinnings with the Tiago hatchback
- Tata is likely to replicate the aggressive pricing also seen on the Tiago
- The Tata Kite5 is scheduled to go on sale later this year in the country

Codenamed Kite 5, Tata Motors' new sub-compact sedan can be seen as an effective replacement to the Indigo eCS and has been appreciated for its neatly proportioned styling. Now, there isn't much of a variation between the concept and the production car and that is good because the roofline flowing into the stubby boot gives it a good character and makes it very different from the current breed of products in the market. This will also change the storage capacity in the rear which will now stand at 420-litres. The front shares its styling with the Tiago, carrying over the bug-like headlamps and wide grille on the model.

Furthermore, the rear gets a wide chrome strip taking prominence on the boot-lid, while you also see a high mounted LED stop lamp and wraparound tail lamps. The cabin of the Kite 5 is quite similar to the Tiago hatchback and we can see features like the rear centre arm rest with cup holders, automatic climate control, reverse camera making their way into the car. The three-spoke steering wheel, which we've seen on the Zest, continues to part of the layout on the Kit 5. Tata has always laden its cars with a ton of features and the Kite 5 will get its lot of them too like Bluetooth, USB and AUX connectivity options, while safety tech includes ABS, dual front airbags, alloy wheels and much more.

In terms of powertrain, engine options on the Tata Kite 5 include the same 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol and 1.05-litre three-cylinder diesel units. Both units will be mated to a 5-speed manual transmission, while the company will also offer the AMT equipped variant in the future. In the meanwhile, Tata is working on the Tiago AMT that was recently caught testing and will join the hatchback lineup later this year.

The top-end trim will come loaded with features including ABS, airbags and alloys
It's the pricing that we're interested in though as we'll understand where Tata will position the Kite 5. That said, the Kite 5 does lose out on power and features, when compared to the Zest which is why expect to be surprised by the pricing of the car. Tata has already done it with the Tiago and we cannot expect anything less of them when it comes to the Kite 5.
