Suzuki Motorcycle India that launched the Gixxer SF in India yesterday, said that it will maintain focus on the 150cc and above segment as it targets a 30 per cent growth in sales at 5 lakh units in the fiscal year 2015 - 2016.

Furthermore, the company is also looking at increasing its super bikes sales by 40 per cent. Suzuki's superbike line-up in India includes Hayabusa and GSX-R, and it intends to bring in new global models like the S1000 and S1000F.

Atul Gupta, Executive VP, Suzuki Motorcycle India admits that the mass segment faces tight competition, but things work a little differently as far as niche segment bikes are concerned. He said, "Your bottomlines don't get affected while in the niche segment, even though you sell less units, you can earn money."

However, Mr Gupta clarified that the company will continue to sell its mass segment motorcycle Hayate despite the new found focus on niche bikes.

He further added that Suzuki plans to launch the S1000 and S1000F in India along with the bikes' global launches. The two are expected to arrive in the markets around June, 2015.

The target if increased sales will need an equally strong sales network, which the company aims to expand. It plans to set up 1,500 touch points by March, 2016.
