Ssangyong Previews XAVL 7-Seater SUV Concept
Highlights
- The XAVL will be revealed at the Geneva Motor Show in March
- Ssangyong will put it into production by the end of this decade
- The XAVL will be equipped with a suite of new safety aids
The XAVL will slot above the XAV and from the looks of it will be a seven-seater in a mid-size SUV package. While we expect the XAV concept to be put into production by 2019, the XAVL will need some more time and probably will go on sale by the end of the decade.
While we await to see the XAVL in the flesh, the teaser image gives away the concepts aggressive and angular lines. The car's front end looks to be an evolution of SsangYong's current design language and frankly it's quite the looker. Inside, the company promises a 'wide inner space with a user friendly interface'. We can spot the large infotainment system on the centre console and we expect it to also get connected car technology.
SsangYong goes on to explain that the XAVL will also equipped with a suite of new safety aids for pedestrians as well as the driver and passengers, and will be powered by both petrol and new clean-burning diesel engines.
SsangYong currently has two platforms - monocoque for cars like the Tivoli and a ladder-frame platform for its bigger SUVs like the Rexton. At the recently concluded Paris Motor Show, we got to see the next-gen Rexton which was showcased via the company's LIV-2 concept. The company has recently tasted success and posted profits just last year and the infusion of money in R&D as well as new product portfolio will see that the company posts steady growth. SsangYong will be using technology from within his own company, parent company Mahindra and telecommunications arms of LG, which will see it lay it hands on the latest in the business.
While Mahindra recently announced that Ssangyong cars might not come to India, we wonder if that will actually happen. Considering that the growth of the SUV segment has been a significant one in the country, clearly the leading UV manufacturer in India, will not want to stay out of it.
