Skoda Kodiaq SUV Goes Into Production
Highlights
- Skoda Kodiaq is underpinned by Volkswagen's MQB platform
- It is the first seven-seater Skoda car
- The SUV is expected to be launched in India next year
Michael Oeljeklaus, Skoda Board Member for Production, said, "We are pleased that it's now underway. The series production launch of the Skoda Kodiaq is an emotional moment for the entire company and especially for our colleagues in Kvasiny. Over the last few months, the whole team has been preparing for the start of production of our new SUV model."
The manufacturing facilities in Kvasiny, one of Skoda's three production sites in the Czech Republic, underwent extensive modernisation and expansion for the production of the manufacturer's latest models. In addition to the newly commissioned car body construction and the conversion of the assembly line, the paint shop and logistics areas have also been expanded.
Skoda's first-ever 7-seater car, the Kodiaq SUV, is named after the Kodiak bear found in Kodiak archipelago in south-west Alaska. Underpinned by the same MQB platform as the Superb and the Octavia, the SUV comes sporting clean-cut lines, muscular contours, and a brawny stance. Notable features of the new Skoda SUV's exterior include a three-dimensional radiator grille, narrow headlights, short overhangs, slightly angular wheel arches, and C-shaped LED tail-lamps.
While the Skoda Kodiaq will receive a total of 5 powertrains options in international markets, it is likely to come powered by the 2.0-litre TDI diesel engine mated to the 7-speed DSG in India. With that said, Skoda may also add a petrol engine to the carline albeit in the future.
