Force India, the Formula 1 team partly owned by Vijay Mallya, is not dismissing the possibility of an association with British luxury carmaker Aston Martin. Otmar Szafnauer, Chief Operating Officer, Sahara Force India, told Motorsport.com that the idea of the two coming together can not be completely written off.

One must note, the endeavours for a partnership between the two for the 2016 Formula One season, which would have marked Aston Martin's return to F1, had proven to be unsuccessful. However, the Silverstone-based team is still looking forward to resuming discussions for the 2017 F1 season. Szafnauer said, "I don't think the answer is no. It was just for 2016 we won't be collaborating. But we will have further discussions later on with Aston to see if there is a possibility for future years."

Aston Martin fleeting stint in F1 dates way back to 1959 and 1960, when it was unable to score any points. With that being said, the carmaker has observed success in other formats of motor sport including Le Mans and the FIA World Endurance Championship.

Szafnauer believes that the key to securing a partnership with Aston Martin lies in the F1 rules. He said, "There were just some decision-making points that were unknown at that time. And they just needed more time to see what the sport was doing about the engine and some other things. They need to have some of those answers before they can make that decision of entering Formula 1 or not. And only time would give them those answers."
