Rolls-Royce Ghost Black Badge Unveiled in India

Rolls-Royce showcased the new Ghost Black Badge in India along with announcing that it was now accepting orders for the luxury limousine. The carmaker has not revealed any fixed pricing citing that price for each unit will be revealed to clients at the time of commissioning and will reflect “the very different individualized needs of customers.” Revealed late last year, the Rolls-Royce Ghost Black Badge is claimed to offer a more involving driver experience over its standard sibling along with featuring several darkened cosmetic elements in a bid to target a younger clientele.

The Black Badge gets several darkened styling details including the company's trademark Spirit of Ecstasy bonnet ornament and the Pantheon Grille. The Black Badge also gets bespoke 21-inch carbon fibre composite wheels replete with the brand's floating hub caps. Rolls says that each customer will be able to opt from up to 44,000 ‘ready to wear' exterior colour choices or commission their own unique shade. The model showcased features a Black exterior paint finish with a Mandarin interior.

Technical Fibre weave veneer unique to the Black Badge

Inside, the cabin is a blend of leather and bespoke veneer (called Black Badge Technical Fibre) comprising of a black Bolivar base with woven carbon fibre and metal-coated thread laid in a diamond pattern finish. The chrome brightwork around the cabin too features a darker finish with even the dashboard timepiece featuring a subdued finish with just the tips on the hands and the twelve, three, six and nine o'clock markers picked out.

Owners will be able to spec the Black Badge to their tastes from colour options to the equipment.

The unit of the Ghost showcased here came packed with equipment such as illuminated Black Badge treadplates, a comfort entry system, rear theatre configuration, rear seat massage function, a refrigerated compartment, lambs wool floor mats, head-up display and ADAS systems. With each unit of the Black Badge being bespoke commissioned for each client expect each car to be different from the other ranging from cosmetics to the equipment on board.

6.75-litre twin-turbo V12 tuned to deliver an additional 29bhp and 50Nm

The changes aren't just skin deep. The Ghost's 6.75-litre twin-turbo V12 has been tweaked to put out 592 bhp and 900 Nm – up 29 bhp and 50 Nm over the regular Ghost. Rolls says that the more powerful engine is accompanied by a re-engineered suspension set-up with new air springs to reduce body rolls in the corners and a new exhaust. The four-wheel steering and all-wheel-drive system too are revised to focus on dynamics. New to the Black Badge is a ‘Low' drive mode that sharpens up engine responses and gearshifts and tweaks the exhaust note.

Moving to other news, Rolls-Royce has commenced its shift towards an electrified line-up with the company's first bespoke EV, the Spectre currently undergoing testing. The company has plans to roll out its first all-electric model by late-2023 with plans to go all-electric by 2030.
