As part of an endeavour to ensure rapid repairs and maintenance of roads, Pune will get a 'road ambulance' service this month. Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) will launch the service which will deploy four vehicles outfitted with apparatus and labour force required for maintenance. Pune's 'road ambulance' will answer calls from citizens and complete requisite repairs.

The aforementioned vehicles will be equipped with a plough, a hoe, tubs, emulsion, a small water tank, painting material, paving blocks, sand, and cement to allow workers to repair roads. Personnel on these vehicles will comprise 3 workers and a supervisor. Other than usual road repairs such as repairing potholes, these vehicles will also facilitate improvement of road furniture, painting roads, and maintenance of road dividers.

PMC usually receives nearly 300 complaints every year, which are generally attended to within 48 hours. Once the new service gets on the road, the administration hopes to utilise it for some of these calls.

Municipal commissioner Kunal Kumar said, "Four specially designed vehicles would be stationed in four municipal zones. Two are ready and two more will be added. We hope to start the service from July." The municipal corporation has commenced 'PMC care' - a platform to enable the use of the 'road ambulance' service. Other than phone calls, the administration also has provisions for Pune residents to use Facebook, Twitter and WhatsApp to inform authorities about the repairs.
