Highlights

The Mahindra XUV500 has been one of the popular mid-size SUVs sold in India. First introduced in 2011, the SUV was on sale in India until 2021, before it was replaced by the more modern and powerful Mahindra XUV700. Now the XUV700 is undoubtedly a superior product, however, if you are looking for a beefy and powerful 7-seater SUV on a budget, then a pre-owned XUV500 might be a good option. Depending on the model year and its condition, you can get a used Mahindra XUV500 for anywhere between Rs. 6 lakh and Rs. 14 lakh. However, before you start looking for one, here are some pros and cons you must consider first.

The Mahindra XUV500 has a strong road presence, it's muscular and beefy, and gets several premium features.

    Pros

    1. While looks are certainly subjective, one cannot deny that the XUV500 has a strong road presence. It's muscular and beefy, and some of the newer versions get premium features like a chrome grille, projector headlamps, LED DRLs, dual-tone alloy wheels and more.
    2. The XUV500 comes with a spacious and well-appointed cabin. Depending on the variant you get features like - a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, power adjustable driver seat, sunroof and more.
    3. The XUV500 comes with the tried and tested 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine that makes 153 bhp and 360 Nm of peak torque. Transmission options include a six-speed manual gearbox and a six-speed automatic transmission. Mahindra also used to offer an all-wheel drive or AWD system.

While XUV500's cabin is spacious and well-appointed, the fit and finish is not the best, and the design too looks dated.

    Cons

    1. Considering the XUV500 was only discontinued in 2021, right now aftersales might not be an issue. However, in the long run, parts availability might be a matter of concern which you need to take into account.
    2. While the XUV500 is spacious and well-appointed, the fit and finish are not the best. You will find several places with large panel gaps, and even the quality of plastics used inside the cabin is not the best.
    3. The XUV500 is not the most fuel-efficient SUV in its segment. In fact, even the claimed mileage is around 15 kmpl, whereas the real-world figures could even go down to single-digit figures.
