Highlights

Piaggio, the Italian auto maker, that currently has Vespa scooters in India, is now planning to launch a couple of new products in the mass scooter segments. The next scooter from Piaggio could be the Fly 125cc that has been, in fact, brought to India for research & development, testing and evaluation. So, we expect it to be launched by mid 2015.

While the retro-looking Vespa scooters are more expensive than other 125cc scooters in the country, the Fly 125, at an expected price of Rs 55,000 - Rs 60,000, will directly take on Honda Activa 125 and Suzuki Access 125.

Powering the Fly 125 will be a 125cc, four stroke engine that churns out a maximum power output of 12bhp and a peak torque of 10.7Nm. With these power figures, the Fly 125 will be the most powerful scooter in its segment. Its closes rival, Honda Activa 125's engine produces 8.6bhp.

Coming to the features, the Fly 125 will have an analogue instrument cluster with a digital watch, an engine kill switch, front disc brakes etc. Besides the Fly 125, Piaggio will also bring in another scooter - the 946 - that the company had showcased at the 2014 Delhi Auto Expo.
