Paris Motor Show 2016: SsangYong LIV-2 Concept Makes Public Debut

The SsangYong LIV-2 Concept carries over from the LIV-1 concept that was showcased at the Seoul Motor Show in 2013, and is the final concept of the Y400 development model. The carmaker says the design goal on the concept is to pursue the emotional interface between the driver, passengers and car while also reproducing the Korean automaker's design philosophy of "Nature-born 3Motion".

At the rear, the LIV-2 features wraparound LED tail lights, while the bumper gets a new diffuser that helps reduce visual bulk on the concept. The cabin gets updated with luxurious cabin and is intended for those who like to be driven. The SsangYong LIV-2 concept features individual seats with centrally connected center console that extends to the second row. In addition, the seats come with a massage function, apart from the Wi-Fi mirroing devices, 9.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system along with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity features.
Speaking about the LIV-2 Concept, SsangYong CEO Johng-sik Choi said, "The LIV-2 showcases our luxurious approach to the extremely popular SUV concept, while also applying advanced technologies and high levels of safety. We are confident that this is going to be another landmark model, and will take the SsangYong brand to the next level. Thereafter, we will be adding a new model every year for the next couple of years, each one designed to broaden our brand appeal to customer groups and international markets."
Furthermore, the SsangYong LIV-2 study boasts a host of communication technologies and safety systems including nine airbags including front, side, curtain and driver's knee airbag, along with advanced emergency braking assist (AEBS), lane departure warning, blind spot detection, lane changing assist, traffic safety assist and high beam assist.

Talking about the powertrain, SsangYong says that the concept draws power from a 2.2-litre turbocharged diesel engine that is tuned to produce 179bhp while power also comes from a 2.0-litre petrol unit tuned for 223bhp. It is believed that the engines will make it to the production version, while power will be sent to the rear wheels or all four wheels via a 6-speed manual and a Mercedes-Benz sourced 7-speed automatic transmission options. However, a new 8-speed automatic is said to replace the 7-speed unit by late 2018.
