Nissan Introduces World's First 'Intelligent Parking Chair'
Highlights
In the age where we are getting ready to welcome autonomous cars into our lives, it seems like an understatement to say that technology has come a long way. Think of it; there are autonomous cars, cars powered by the human brain, synthetic fuel, self-parking cars - the list could go on and on. Considering the comparatively greater leeway for innovation, Nissan has introduced the world's first automated 'Intelligent Parking Chair' - a project that serves to promote the carmaker's motto of "enriching people's lives through technology".
Nissan collaborated with the award-winning creative team BIRDMAN for the chair that not only demonstrates the latest technology adopted by the Japanese company's vehicles, but also how it is revolutionizing our daily lives. Inspired by Nissan's Intelligent Park Assist technology, the chair also employs the 'Bird's-eye view' and 'Automatic Movement' concepts.
To put things into perspective, the Intelligent Park Assist comprises 4 cameras on the car body (the front, rear, and both wing mirrors). The footage from the cameras is converted by the system that composites a virtual bird's-eye view image, thus allowing automatic steering.
The chair also uses four cameras placed on each corner of the room's ceiling that locate the chair's current position, while the system calculates the chair's route to return to a set position. The Intelligent Parking Chair includes a roller to automatically move 360 degrees paired with a system that indicates the target position.
