  • The new Range Rover Evoque test mule gets Velar-like design cues
  • The new Range Rover Evoque is expected to get a larger cabin
  • Land Rover could introduce the SUV at the Paris Motor Show 2018

A test mule of the next-generation Land Rover Range Rover Velar was recently spotted testing. The prototype model was seen undergoing cold weather testing, draped heavily in camouflage. Interestingly, the new Range Rover Evoque, which appears to be nearing its production guise, largely resembles the recently launched Range Rover Velar. While the camouflage effectively hides the new styling of the SUV, the silhouette and certain exposed areas of new Range Rover Evoque prototype quite evidently give away its Velar-like design.

The current-generation Range Rover Evoque has been in the market for about six years now and has already received its mid-life facelift. It's about time that the British carmaker introduces the next-gen model, and judging by these latest images we might get to see the new Range Rover Evoque at the upcoming Paris Motor Show, in October 2018, or in early 2019. The new-gen Evoque is expected to be based on an evolved version of the current model's D8 architecture and might also grow a bit in size to offer more cabin space, compensating for the coupe-like roofline.

New-gen Range Rover Evoque will take design cues from the new Velar

Similar to the Range Rover Velar, the test mule of the new Range Rover Evoque is seen with a new pair of sleeker LED headlamps. The unit is wearing bolt-on grille and from bumper to hide the original design, but we believe the design will take some inspiration from the new Velar. The SUV is seen with a set of black alloy wheels, but we believe the production model will get different ones. From the sides, we can see the new sloping roofline with a larger spoiler at the back.

The rear portion of the new Range Rover Evoque still looks like it needs some work, but despite the camouflage, we can see that the SUV gets a new wide and sleeker set of taillamps, a new tailgate and new rear bumper.

Under the hood, the new Range Rover Evoque is expected to retain its powertrains, offering the same range of four-cylinder turbocharged petrol and diesel engines from the Ingenium family. The power outputs will also remain the same, ranging from 150 bhp to about 300 bhp. In addition to that, the new Range Rover Evoque is also expected to get the first mild hybrid setup in a Land Rover vehicle, powered by a 1.5-liter Ingenium gas engine, supported by a compact electric motor backed up by a 48-volt electric system. However, the hybrid version of the SUV will be introduced at a much later date, possibly sometime in 2020.
