Starting with the engine, the 294.72 cc, now dubbed ‘J Panther’ by the company continues to develop 26.9 bhp and 26.84 Nm. Peak output is identical to that from the older unit though Jawa says that the upgraded mill offers improved power and torque output at lower rpm to aid low-speed riding. The unit also gets upgrades to help reduce NVH levels and improve engine cooling. The engine is mated to a 6-speed gearbox with a slip and assist clutch with Jawa saying that the new 42 features gear-based engine mapping. In the first three gears the powertrain puts greater focus on low rpm riding while the fourth gear and up put more focus on the mid-range and top-end for highway performance.
