We have told you that Toyota is working on the next generation Camry and it will be showcased at the 2017 Detroit Auto Show. Ahead of its global debut, the Japanese auto giant has given us a sneak-peek at the car with a new teaser image. The new teaser image shows a section of the rear profile of the car revealing the new tail lamps and the XSE variant badge. In fact, Toyota will be live streaming the unveiling of the car at the Detroit Auto Show that will take place on the 9th of January 2017.
The Toyota Camry has been one of the best-selling nameplates in automobile history - the world over. It is currently in its 7th generation and has already undergone one facelift. The carmaker has been testing the new-gen Camry for quite a while now and it is finally ready to break cover next month. During our previous interaction with Masato Katsumata, the Chief Engineer of the Camry at Toyota, he told us that the next generation Camry will definitely be positioned as a fun to drive and performance-oriented sedan. Katsumata has been travelling to many markets to get feedback from Camry customers to try and figure out what all needs to be improved in the next car - including the Camry hybrid.
The new-gen Camry will also see some major design changes both on the outside as well the inside. The exterior profile of the car will feature some stylish character lines, bolder design and premium feature, a hint of which can already be seen from the teaser image. While there is yet a lot to be revealed about the car's design and offerings, we can tell you that the new Camry is likely to come with alluring looks, comfortable interior, and excellent ride quality along with powertrain options that are extremely frugal and fuel efficient.
As for powertrain option, it is too soon to tell whether we'll see any new engine joint the current list, but it is said that the existing 3.5-litre V6 engine offered in the global markets will be replaced by a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder motor. This will be accompanied by a slightly tuned version of the 2.5-litre, four-cylinder naturally aspirated engine the does duty in the base variant, which is currently offered in India. Of course, the new Toyota Camry will come in a hybrid guise as well.
