Highlights
- New Benelli bikes will be unveiled at 2016 EICMA
- Both bikes are naked roadsters
- Launch likely by end-2016
Benelli may be getting ready to release two new mid- and large-capacity motorcycles, according to recent reports. The Italian brand's Chinese owners, Qianjiang is preparing to extend the Benelli range with these two new bikes with an eye on the European market. Both bikes could be unveiled at the EICMA 2016 in Milan later this year.
The first of the two new bikes is a naked roadster powered by a 750cc parallel-twin, code named BJ750GS. The overall design seems to be influenced by the Ducati Monster, but the rest of the design elements are unique, like the body coloured headlight, single sided tyre hugger and a 2-into-1 exhaust system with a meaty end can to meet Euro 4 norms.
Cycle parts include a meaty upside down front fork, dual discs at the front, rear monoshock suspension and a single rear disc brake. The engine, a parallel-twin unit, is mounted on a trellis frame. Although no details and specifications are available yet, we assume the engine to make in the region of 100bhp, considering Benelli's current 600cc engine makes around 80bhp.
The second new Benelli is a three-cylinder naked that is likely to sit at the top of the company's new and revamped product line. The engine is expected to be the current 121bhp 899cc motor which powers the TNT 899. Unlike the TNT 899, this new model is expected to be more affordable, with a simpler trellis frame design, and the use of a single radiator.
Both bikes are expected to meet Euro 4 emission norms and are expected to be competitively priced, and are expected to be launched later this year. Once the bikes are launched globally, we expect them to be eventually launched by Benelli in India, sometime in 2017.
