More Details Of Zontes Triple-Cylinder Engines Revealed
Highlights
Chinese motorcycle manufacturer Zontes has revealed more details about its upcoming three-cylinder engines. So far, Zontes is known for its small displacement motorcycles, and in July 2022, the company announced its debut in the Indian market, in partnership with Adishwar Auto Ride, which also retails brands like Benelli and Keeway in India. Although India operations are yet to begin in full swing, Zontes announced five products in the 300-400 cc category for India. Parallelly, the company seems to have ambitious plans of getting into higher displacement, performance-oriented motorcycles with its new three-cylinder engines under development in China.

In fact, Zontest announced last year of its plans to make a three-cylinder engine, but now more details of the engine have emerged. The brand’s three-cylinder platform will be offered in two different capacities, 650 cc and 1,000 cc, and will be used in a range of models in the future.

According to the company, work on the engine platform was delayed due to the pandemic, but it’s going to be a high compression ratio engine with a redline of over 13,000 rpm. That will be more than the Yamaha CP3 847 cc unit and the 765 cc triple powerplant of Triumph’s Street Triple.
The 1,000 cc triple-cylinder engine will compete with not just MV Agusta, Yamaha and Triumph, but will also take on litre-class inline four-cylinder engines with similar performance.
The high revving nature of the three-cylinder engine of Zontes along with the compression ratio of 13.5:1 means that it will be a performance-oriented unit. Comparatively, the Yamaha 847 cc triple engine of the MT-09 revs to 11,000 rpm while the Street Triple 765 spins to 12,500 rpm. Eventually, Zontes plans to offer four versions of the new three-cylinder engine. More details, possibly even details of new models, are expected within the next 2-3 months.
