Highlights

It was just yesterday, that MG Motor announced that the company is all set to bring in an electric SUV to India. However, that'll be the company's second product in the country. The first one will be a regular SUV and in a presentation made in Shanghai, the company teased this very SUV. It was last year that the UK-based car maker MG Motor, owned by Chinese auto giant SAIC, inaugurated its first manufacturing facility at Halol, Gujarat. The company back then said it will be making an initial investment of Rs. 2000 crore with an initial capacity of 80,000 units per year in the first phase. The company had already announced that it will be making a total investment of Rs. 5000 crore in India over the next 6 years and is all set to roll out its first car in India by the second quarter of 2019.

The first model to be launched in India will come with 75 per cent locally sourced content and this will help keep price in check. In fact, Rajeev Chaba, President & Managing Director, MG Motor India, said, "All our products will be designed and engineered in UK and China with the support of Indian engineers. These vehicles will be heavily localized, built at our plant in Halol by our engineers conforming to global quality standards and validated and customized for India to suit the Indian road and driving conditions."

The SUV from MG Motor is likely to be bigger in size than the Tucson, Compass and even the CR-V. In fact the company even says that it was recently crash tested by CNCAP and earned a 5 star rating. From the teaser image we can only make out that the SUV gets a bold stance and the high haunches adds to the muscular looks of the car. There are no details on the engine yet but we hope to know more about it soon.
