Mercedes-Benz India Delivers 4101 Cars In Q3 2021; New Launches Planned For Q4

- Mercedes-Benz India has sold 4101 new vehicles in Q3 2021
- Mercedes-Benz India's total YTD sales stood at 8958 units
- The E-Class remained the highest-selling model between Jan & Sept 2021
Mercedes-Benz India has announced nearly doubling its sales volume in the third quarter of the calendar year 2021. Between July and September 2021, the company sold 4101 units in India, achieving a 99 per cent growth compared to 2060 units sold during the same period in 2020. While this is not a very ideal comparison considering the market, the situation was much dire in Q3 2020 due to supply constraints due to the post-lockdown situation. Furthermore, the company high volume products - like the A-Class Limousine and the GLA were launched only in 2021.
Commenting on the company's sales performance, Martin Schwenk, Managing Director & CEO, Mercedes-Benz India commented, "Mercedes-Benz's strong YTD sales growth which is highlighted by a robust recovery in customer demand specifically in Q3 2021, is backed by a combination of new product line-up and also bullish market sentiments. We have built a strong order bank for most of our new and existing products and are striving hard to hand over these cars to the customers on time. We expect the upcoming festive season to continue this sales momentum and create additional demand."

The E-Class continued to remain the single highest-selling model for Mercedes-Benz in January-September 2021 period

Between January and September, the first three quarters of CY 2020, Mercedes-Benz India's total sales stood at 8958 units. Out of this, 4857 units were sold between January and June 2021, and the remaining 4101 units in the third quarter. This was mainly due to the second wave of the coronavirus pandemic which led to partial lockdowns and restrictions between April and June, affecting the company's Q2 sales performance. However, compared to 5007 units sold during the same period in 2020, the company witnessed a growth of 79 per cent. However, as mentioned earlier, considering the market situation was not ideal last year, this is merely an anomaly.

Mercedes-Benz says there was equal demand for both sedans and SUVs
Schwenk further added, "We already have crossed our 2020 numbers in the first nine months this year, and the current market momentum gives us the confidence for the festive season. Our product offensive for the Indian market this year is far from over and the customers can expect some of the most exciting vehicles lined up for their India Mercedes-Benz India. It will be our endeavour to produce as many cars as possible to cater to the unprecedented demand, secure our supply chain and continue to mitigate the current challenges faced by the entire auto industry. We are cautiously optimistic with our sales outlook for the upcoming months."

The Mercedes-Benz GLA and A-Class continued to drive volumes
Mercedes-Benz says there was equal demand for both sedans and SUVs with the company witnessing 48 per cent Sedan penetration and 48 per cent SUV penetration. Both the A-Class Limousine and new GLA drove strong volumes, however, the E-Class continued to remain the single highest-selling model for Mercedes-Benz in January-September 2021 period followed by the GLC luxury SUV. Mercedes says that online sales continued to be a strong contributor with 20 per cent of the company's total sales coming from online channels.
