A standard Mercedes-Benz E 300 BlueTec Hybrid traversed the distance from Africa to the UK on one tank of fuel. The journey started from Tangier in Northern Africa to the UK, traveling through two continents, four countries and three time zones in a total time of 27 hours.

The car was driven by British journalist Andrew Frankel, who covered a total of 1,968 km and consumed fuel at an average of 3.1 l/100 km. The car was fitted with an optional larger 80-litre tank; other than that, the car was fitted with virtually standard equipment.

The E 300 BlueTec Hybrid was powered by a 200bhp and 500 Nm churning diesel engine combined with a 25bhp churning electric motor. Thanks to these two power units, the car can accelerate from 0-100Km/h in 7.5 seconds and reaches a top-speed of 241Km/h.

During the course of the journey, the journalist encountered heavy rain, intense heat, rush hour traffic jams and dramatic elevation changes. But that clearly did not keep the E300 BlueTec Hybrid from reaching the Goodwood Festival of Speed on time.
