Mercedes-Benz officially revealed the C-Class Estate and the pictures and video tell the story. The C-Class Estate is 96mm longer than its predecessor, taking the overall length to 4702mm. The wheelbase has also been elongated by 80mm and now measures 2840mm.

The front of the new C-Class Estate has been borrowed from the sedan but is different from the B-pillars all the way to the back of the car. The increase in the wheelbase has led to more legroom and the people at Mercedes-Benz say that it has increased by a significant 45mm while the additional 40mm in the car's width (now at 1810mm) has boosted head, elbow and shoulder room.

Even the boot capacity with the seats up has been upped by 5 litres to 490 litres and with the seats folded, you get 1510 litres of space enough to, as you will see in the video, park a toy helicopter. The rear seats split in a 40/20/40 configuration and boasts of electrically-foldable backrests.

Now, you might think that this growth might have added to the weight of the car, but that is not the case. The new C-Class Estate is 65kgs lighter and comes with a load full of features. Customers will be given an option of Airmatic air suspension with self-levelling function, which clearly will be a novelty.

Spend some more and you can get an Easy Pack function for assisted tailgate opening or with a Hands-Free Access option which enables the opening/closing of the trunk by simply waving your foot under the rear bumper.

As far as what goes under the hood is concerned, Mercedes-Benz will offer the same engine options as on the sedan. Customers can choose depending on the engine selection from rear-wheel drive or a 4MATIC all-wheel drive. Come September the car will be up for sale but it is highly unlikely it will come to India.
