Not so long ago we told you that Maruti Suzuki is working on a new WagonR model, which was spotted testing in India early this month. While previous reports suggested that the car will be called WagonR Minor, the company seems to have dropped that idea and has simply added the model as a top-variant. That said, the car still looks like an updated version of the Stingray, which was, in fact, introduced as a premium version of the WagonR in the first place.

Introducing the WagonR VXi+ variant R. S. Kalsi, Executive Director Marketing & Sales, Maruti Suzuki India Limited, said, "WagonR has had a phenomenal journey since its launch. Maruti Suzuki has delivered over 19 lakh WagonR. The WagonR VXI+ has been introduced to meet customer demands, who have desired for more style, along-with comfort, convenience and advanced safety features. The WagonR VXI+ defines unique design interventions both on the interiors as well as exteriors. It would strengthen the WagonR brand and help to enhance Maruti Suzuki's market share."

Coming to the car itself, the new Maruti Suzuki WagonR VXI+ comes with improved styling and host of new features, which includes - a stylish chrome design element at the centre flanked by wraparound projector headlamps that together give the impression of one single element. The new larger front bumper looks well-designed and houses the 4-slat hexagonal grille and round foglamps encased in plastic claddings.

As you move towards the sides you'll notice that the WagonR VXI+ comes with new stylish alloy wheels and side skirts, while still maintaining its boxy and tallboy profile. The cabin, on the other hand, comes with new dual-tone black & beige interior with beige upholstery along with piano black finish panels. On the feature front, Maruti has equipped the WagonR VXI+ with offerings like Dual Airbags, Anti-Lock braking System with Electronic brake - force distribution system, as optional.

Mechanically the new WagonR VXI+ remains unchanged and comes powered by the same 67 bhp 1.0-litre, three-cylinder engine that develops 90 Nm of peak torque. Transmission options include a 5-speed manual gearbox and Maruti's automated manual transmission unit AGS, as optional.

Earlier this month brochure images of the new-gen WagonR and Stingray were also leaked, which we have shared with you. The new-gen models come with all-new design and styling and is expected to come with a host of improved features. That said, we do not expect the cars to reach our shores anytime before 2018.
