Maruti Suzuki to Increase Vitara Brezza's Production
Highlights
- Currently, Vitara Brezza's waiting period ranges between 6-9 months
- Its top-end ZDI+ dual-tone variant commands the highest waiting period
- Brezza's production will be further increased to 10,000 units/ month
That, however, is set to change soon. According to an ET report, Maruti Suzuki will increase Vitara Brezza's production to 10,000 units/ month from this month. Interestingly, this isn't the first instance of revision of the sub-compact SUV's production plans. The carmaker originally intended to manufacture 80,000 units per annum, but later changed it to 100,000 units. Now with the impending increment in production, that number will stand revised at 120,000 units/ annum.
One must note that the Vitara Brezza isn't the only Maruti Suzuki car waiting to receive a boost in production. The carmaker is also labouring to increase the Baleno hatchback's production. However, this begs one primary question: how is Maruti Suzuki working out the capacity for this growth in production? Some scope for the production boost may be attributed to a gradual dip in demand for other Maruti Suzuki cars. Case in point, the Swift; the hatchback's sales dropped from 17,195 units in May, 2015 to 12,355 units in May, 2016.
The rest of it may be assigned to the company's upcoming facility in Gujarat. Suzuki Motor Corp's new plant in Gujarat will aid Maruti Suzuki's projected increase in production. Pilot production at the plant, which will initially offer a production capacity of 250,000 units/ year, is expected to start in the January-March quarter next year.
