The Maruti Suzuki Ignis has recently crossed the one lakh sales milestone in India. First launched in January 2017, the carmaker has sold over one lakh units of the Ignis compact hatchback in India in just a little over two years. The Ignis was only the second hatchback to join the company's Nexa line up after the Baleno and currently accounts for an average of almost 3000 units a month, which might be less compared to the Swift or the Wagon R, but still at par with most compact hatchbacks in the segment.

Recently, the Maruti Suzuki Ignis also received an update in India and was launched with more safety features along with a minor exterior update. The Ignis, for the first time in India, came with roof-rails on the Zeta and Alpha variants, while safety bits like reverse parking sensors, co-driver seat belt reminder and the high-speed alert system became standard across all the variants. Other safety features that already come as standard with the car include - dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, seat belt pre-tensioners with force limiters and ISOFIX child seat mounts.
On the outside, the Maruti Suzuki Ignis comes with projector headlamps with LED DRLs, ORVMs with turn indicators, alloy wheels, LED taillamps, and more. The cabin, on the other hand, offers good space thanks to its tall-boy design, in addition to a well-equipped dashboard. The features list include, a new SmartPlay Studio infotainment system, multi-functional steering wheel, push-button start-stop function, and automatic climate control among others.

The 2019 Maruti Suzuki Ignis is offered in four variants - Sigma, Delta, Zeta, and Alpha, and the latter three also get the option of automated manual transmission a.k.a. Maruti's AGS (auto gear shift) unit. While initially, the car was launched with both petrol and diesel engine options, early last in January, the company discontinued the diesel models due to low demand. Currently, the car comes with the tried and tested 1.2-litre K12 petrol engine tuned to churn out 83 bhp at 6000 rpm and develops a peak torque of 113 Nm at 4200 rpm. Transmission duties are handled by a 5-speed manual gearbox and an optional 5-speed AMT unit.
