Mahindra e2o Plus Taxis in Nagpur Cross 25 Lakh Kilometres In One Year
Highlights
- Mahindra Electric and Ola Cabs tied up last year in May in Nagpur
- The all-electric Mahindra e2o has a range of between 120-140 kms
- The electric cabs can use four electric charge stations in Nagpur
About a year ago, Mahindra Electric and app-based taxi service provider Ola tied up in the Central Indian city of Nagpur to provide clean mobility point to point solutions. Amongst the electric cars, the four door Mahindra e2o Plus was put into service as a taxi and despite some initial teething issues, mainly due to range, have done rather well. 100 electric cars were put into service and according to tweet put out by Mahesh Babu, Chief Executive Officer of Mahindra Electric, these cabs have already covered 25 lakh kms in under a year. While naturally aspirated petrol or diesel cars regularly cover extensive distances, a fleet of electric cars covering such a high distance average is actually quite the rarity.

Mahindra & Mahindra M.D. Pawan Goenka also responded by tweeting 'A milestone that I am most proud of. With charging infra coming in these numbers will multiply fast.' Ola had already announced an investment of Rs 50 Crore for EV charging infrastructure with 50 car charge points across Nagpur in 4 large select locations. This included one near the airport, which is a hotbed for app-based cab operations in most cities in India. With Pawan Goenka hinting at even more charging points, range anxiety in terms of charging points, which is one of the main points of contention with electric car users will be dealt with.

The Mahindra e2o Plus in its current form has a range of either 120 or 140 kms (depending on the variant) from either a 11kWh or a 15 kWh battery pack. The electric motor makes a modest 25 bhp of peak power and 70 Nm of peak torque. Mahindra also offers quick charging on its P2 variant with charging times reduced by almost 80 percent for a considerable range. The cars have a top speed of 80 kmph and a 0-60 kmph time of just over 14 seconds.
