Land Rover Considers Petrol-Powered Range Rover Sport For India
Highlights
- The Range Rover Sport will get a 3.0-litre V6 petrol engine
- The engine produces 380bhp and 450Nm
- It will have the same equipment as the diesel engine variants
The Indian car market is seeing a growing inclination towards petrol-powered vehicles in recent times. In fact, a lot of utility vehicle (UV) makers and luxury car manufacturers, who used to largely favour diesel vehicles, have started to introduce petrol models as well. And Tata-Motors-owned Land Rover seems to be one of them. The British carmaker recently imported a single model of the Range Rover Sport powered by a V6 petrol engine for homologation. Considering currently only the SVR variant is powered by a petrol engine, this indicates the Range Rover Petrol could be on the cards for India.
The Range Rover Sport imported to India is the HSE variant and as mentioned earlier, it comes powered by a 3.0-litre V6 Supercharged petrol engine. The six-cylinder motor is capable of churning out about 380bhp and develops a peak torque of 450Nm. Transmission duties are handled by an 8-speed automatic gearbox and a 4-wheel-drive (4WD) system comes as standard fitment. The supercharged motor allows this Range Rover Sport to do a 0-100 km/h sprint in 6.8 seconds, before reaching a top speed of 209 km/h.
The SUV will see no major changes in terms of design and cosmetic offerings and will also come with the same feature list as the diesel variants. The SUV will continue to offer features like - 360-degree parking aid, adaptive cruise control with queue assist and intelligent emergency braking, park assist with rear view camera, and powered gesture tailgate among others. The SUV also comes with gizmos like - Heads-Up display, INCONTROL Touch Pro, along with TFT virtual instrument panel.
This is the second Land Rover SUV that has been imported to India for homologation since last month. Earlier, we reported that the carmaker has brought in the 3-door coupe version of the Range Rover Evoque, which is also expected to go on sale in India soon along with its convertible version. While nothing is concrete yet, we expect the cars to be launched in India in 2017.
