Land Rover has built the building the 2000000th unit of the Defender at the Solihull factory in UK. The company started production at the factory in 1947 with the Series I model and now after close to seven decades the factory has reached the two millionth milestone of the Land Rover Series I, II and III and the Defender.

The company invited several Defender fans to the factory to help put together the one-off Defender which receives several exterior and interior tweaks. Let's start from the exterior. The Red Wharf Bay played a significant part in the development of the car as it was here that the original model was drawn in sand and its map has been engraved on the aluminum fender while the body wears a Silver Satin paint scheme. The back of the car also bears the 'no. 2,000,000' badge and there is a special black look given to the wheels, door hinges, wheel arches, mirror caps and grille.

Inside, the cabin has leather-wrapped seats with a 'Red Wharf Bay' graphic and 'no 2,000,000' logos stitched onto the headrests. Land Rover has also added a personal touch to the car as what comes fitted to the driver's seat plinth is an aluminum plaque that has been signed by everyone who helped assembly the car.

Dr Ralf Speth, Chief Executive of Jaguar Land Rover, said "Over 67 years, the Series Land Rover and in turn Defender has been the transport of choice for explorers, charity organisations, farmers and even royalty. Throughout history it has helped pioneers to reach the unreachable. What started life as an agricultural workhorse has transcended the automotive world to become a worldwide design icon. I was honoured to join the production line team in Solihull to help build this unique vehicle."

The car will make its debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed later this week and will make its way to various venues before going under the hammer on December 16 at the Bonhams auction house in London. December will also see Land Rover conclude production of the current generation Defender which will be succeeded by an all-new model in 2018.
