Kia Carens Variants Details, Specifications And Engine Options Revealed Ahead Of India Launch

The Kia Carens MPV will go on sale in India in the first quarter of 2022. It seems the carmaker couldn't wait for a few months to tell us more about its upcoming MPV. The South Korean automaker has announced trim details and technical specifications of the three-row vehicle ahead of its launch. It will be the brand's fourth product in the Indian market after the Seltos, Carnival and the Sonet. Moreover, the company will begin accepting bookings for the three-row MPV from January 14, 2021.

Kia India will offer the Carens in 5 trim levels - Premium, Prestige, Prestige Plus, Luxury and Luxury Plus. The MPV will be available in both 6-seater and 7-seater configurations. The MPV employs Kia's latest global design language featuring a signature Tiger face with Crown Jewel LED headlamps and star map LED DRLs. It also gets new star map LED taillamps, 16-inch dual-tone alloy wheels, chrome rear bumper with diamond knurling pattern and more.
In terms of dimensions, the Kia Carens measures 4,540 mm in length, 1,800 mm in width and 1,708 mm in height. The MPV has the longest wheelbase in its class, which stands at 2,780 mm. Kia will offer the MPV in eight body colours - Imperial Blue, Moss Brown, Sparkling Silver, Intense Red, Glacier White Pearl, Clear White, Gravity Grey and Aurora Black Pearl.

The upcoming Carens MPV will be a feature-loaded offering from Kia that comes equipped with several first-in-class features. It includes a 10.25-inch HD touchscreen infotainment system with navigation, 66 connected car features with next-generation Kia Connect, BOSE Sound System with 8 speakers, 64 colour ambient lighting, Smart Pure Air Purifier with Virus and Bacteria Protection, ventilated front seats, multi-drive modes, sunroof, paddle shifters, wireless charger with cooling function, first-row cooling cup holders and second-row can holders, retractable seat back table with cup holder and gadget mount, sliding-type under-seat tray, and more. As for safety, the MPV will get 6 airbags, ESC, VSM, HAC, DBC, ABS, BAS, all-wheel disc brakes, Highline TPMS, rear parking sensors as standard across trims.

Under the hood, the Kia Carens will come with two petrol and one diesel engine option, borrowed from the Seltos compact SUV. It includes a naturally aspirated 1.5-litre petrol engine, a 1.4-litre turbo petrol motor, and a 1.5-litre diesel mill. The 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine makes 113 bhp with 144 Nm of torque, whereas the 1.4-litre T-GDi turbo petrol engine offers 138 bhp with 242 Nm of peak torque. The oil burner, on the other hand, makes 113 bhp and 250 Nm. Transmission duties are carried out by a 6-speed manual gearbox as standard with optional automatic 7-speed DCT (1.4-litre T-GDi petrol) and a 6-speed torque converter (1.5-litre VGT diesel), respectively.
