Intelligent Driver Alertness (Function & Intelligence)

Do you know that 37% of the drivers reported falling asleep at least once during their life while driving? Nissan's Intelligent Driver Alertness feature is just a convenient feature that can prevent you from driving erratically when exhausted or tired. When you see that little amber coffee cup symbol on your Nissan car, you know that you should stop driving right there.
Let's face it – most of us drive carelessly after having a long exhausting day at work. However, we are also aware that driving like this is risky for everyone. But thanks to Nissan's driver attention alert, the vehicle will detect inattentive and drowsy driving! Let's skip the small talks and see how this innovational feature works!
What is Intelligent Driver Alertness?
Intelligent driver alertness is a brilliant feature that helps detect erratic driving and driver fatigue. If your car travels at a 60 km/h or higher speed, and the system detects that the driver's attention is less than regular, the system will produce an audible chime. The alert will prompt the drivers to take a break.
It is the responsibility of every driver to remain alert at all times. Remember that the intelligent driver alertness system is only to warn the driver of a possible lack of attention towards the steering. In fact, it might not promptly detect every time depending on your driving pattern.

How Does the Intelligent Driver Alertness System Operate?
When you feel exhausted or sleepy, you might resort to corrective steering more frequently than usual. The intelligent driver alertness system helps analyse drivers' erratic driving when comparatively unattentive or drowsy.
When the car is driving at a speed of 60 km/h for a while, the system will start to monitor system inputs. If the system picks an inattentive and drowsy driving pattern based on the smoothness of your steering control, it will generate an audible alert. It'll prompt a message with a multi-information display to alert you for a break.

System Mechanism Behind Intelligent Driver Alertness
The intelligent driver alertness (I-DA) tracks the driver's reduced attention or drowsiness based on the smoothness of the steering inputs. It uses the steering angle sensors and calculates the roughness of the steering input. The alert system constantly compares the subsequent driving patterns to a baseline. It uses the statistical analysis of steering corrections.
If the different driving patterns touch a certain level, the system concludes that the driver's attention is divided. As a result, it'll release a loud chime and display a message for the driver to take a break.
