Planning to get a new set of tyres for your car? Hold on a minute and read up on this little guide we've prepared for you. Getting to know these details about tyres will help you make better purchase decisions. In India, choosing the right tyres is an incredibly important decision since your driving experience on the bumpy, pothole-filled roads of the country will depend greatly on them. Plus, there's also the question of safety. So, without any further ado, let us tell you these important tips to note while buying new tyres for your car.
Tubeless vs tube-type

Tubeless tyres do not contain any inner tube between the tyre and the rim. That means the air inside is directly held in the space between the tyre and the rim. As opposed to that, a tube-type tyre contains an inflatable tube inside it that holds the air in. If it comes to choosing between the two, tubeless should always be the way to go. Their main advantage is that they lose air very slowly, so even if there is a puncture, you can drive for several kilometres before the tyre goes flat. Moreover, this puncture can be easily repaired by simply plugging the leak instead of having to remove the entire tyre.
Tyre life

Various factors determine the wear that your tyre will have over time. The most prominent ones among them are driving conditions and maintenance. Driving on bad roads and driving fast with a lot of hard braking can greatly reduce a tyre's lifespan. Maintaining tyre pressure is a big factor, so always make sure to keep it at recommended levels. As for when to change tyres on a car, you should know that small hatchback tyres have an average life of about 40,000kms, but can even last up to 50,000kms based on their use. If you own an SUV, you can be rest assured that up to 60,000kms can be borne by your tyres before needing a change. Low-profile tyres have a short life and will only last for around 30,000kms.
Tyre size

Choosing the correct size of your new tyres is imperative. Your car has only been designed to work with a certain size. The rim or the alloy wheel is also designed to fit a certain size. Having a different sized tyre fitted on your car will lead to reduced fuel efficiency, early wear of the tyre, and will greatly affect the driving experience. You will find the recommended tyre size in the user manual or on the driver-side door jamb.
Spare tyre
Do not ignore the spare tyre. If you have used it once, immediately buy another one to keep in the slot dedicated to it. You never know when it might get you out of dire situations. Also, when you're inflating your tyres, make it a habit to check whether the spare tyre has the right amount of air as well.
Keep these few points in mind the next time you're out purchasing new tyres for your car.
