The Hero Xtreme NXT is the production model of the Hero Xtreme 200S which was unveiled at the Auto Expo 2016. It's taken almost two years for Hero to finally launch the production model of the bike, expected to be called the Xtreme NXT, which will be launched on January 30, 2018. The Xtreme NXT will be the first 200 cc motorcycle from Hero MotoCorp and will compete in a rapidly growing segment of motorcycles in India. We take a look at what to expect from the Hero Xtreme NXT.

1. Looks and Design

The design of the Hero Xtreme NXT will not stray too much from the Xtreme 200S showcased two years ago as a concept at the Auto Expo 2016. Overall, the design is quite similar to the 150 cc Xtreme Sports, but gets slightly sharper styling and looks sportier as well. The dual-tone colour combination and loud graphics seem a bit overdone to underline the bike's sporty design, but that could in fact, work in the bike's favour for loyal Hero customers who may be looking to upgrade from smaller commuter motorcycles to something in the 200 cc space.

2. Features

The Hero Xtreme NXT is expected to get a digital and analogue instrument panel, and the concept showcased at the Auto Expo 2016 sported LED pilot lights, and a LED tail light as well. The alloy wheels get a new design as well, with a fat 130 mm rear tyre.

3. Specifications and Performance

The Xtreme NXT is expected to be powered by a 200 cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine mated to a five-speed transmission. Output from the engine is expected to be around 18 bhp at 8,500 rpm and peak torque of 17 Nm at 6,000 rpm. Suspension is handled by a telescopic front fork and monoshock at the rear, while braking is handled by single discs at both ends. Single-channel ABS is expected as an option too.

4. Expected pricing

Hero MotoCorp is expected to price the Xtreme 200R aggressively, focussing on grabbing a fair share of the rapidly growing 200-300 cc segment. Hero is expected to claim decent fuel consumption figures from the Xtreme NXT as well, in a bid to convert the traditional 125-150 cc customer base into the performance oriented 200 cc segment. We expect pricing in the range of Rs. 80,000-85,000 (ex-showroom).

5. Competition check

The Hero Xtreme NXT has several competitors in the 200-250 cc space, and will face tough competition from the likes of the Bajaj Pulsar NS200, TVS Apache RTR 2004V, but if Hero manages to price the Xtreme 200R aggressively, it will also compete with the likes of the Honda CB Hornet 160R, the Suzuki Gixxer as well as the TVS Apache RTR 180.
