Hero Electric rolled out its first electric scooter from Mahindra's Pithampur facility earlier this week. The company recently announced its partnership with the Mahindra Group for a period of five years, which would see Hero Electric manufacture its EVs at the Mahindra plant in order to meet the growing demand for its electric scooters. The first model to be rolled out at the plant was the Hero Electric Optima, while the company also plans to manufacture to NYX at the same facility.

Hero Electric will also work with Mahindra to electrify Peugeot Motocycles for Europe

Beyond sharing space to build vehicles, the partnership between Hero Electric and the Mahindra Group will also extend towards both companies jointly working to develop and share the supply chain and platform for new electric offerings. Hero Electric will play an active role in electrifying the Mahindra-owned Peugeot Motocycles in the coming years. Both companies said they plan to share their R&D expertise for the same that will be used to developed newer technologies and products for domestic and overseas markets.

Hero Electric is the biggest electric two-wheeler maker in India by volume and the company is looking to expand its presence and sales as the EV boom hits India. The company aims to produce at least one million EVs per year by the end of 2022 and the company will be accelerating production in the coming months to meet the growing demand. The manufacturer is already in the process of expanding production capacity at its Ludhiana plant and will also add production capacities of one million every year with a target to manufacture over five million electric two-wheelers per year by 2026.
