Highlights
- McLaren says the 720S is lighter and faster than the 650S
- The car's name alludes to the power its engine develops
- It derives power from a new 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine
Mike Flewitt, Chief Executive Officer, McLaren Automotive, said, "Super Series is the core of the McLaren business and personifies the blend of extreme performance, crafted luxury and unparalleled driver involvement that is the McLaren heartland. This is the first time we have replaced a product family and the new 720S is absolutely true to McLaren's pioneering spirit in being a revolutionary leap forwards, both for our brand and the supercar segment."
Much like every McLaren road car built since the McLaren F1 in 1993, the new 720S also gets a carbon fibre chassis. The car's architecture is based around a new carbon fibre 'tub' and upper structure, the McLaren Monocage II, that delivers extreme strength and rigidity in a lightweight structure. Other than that, a new generation of McLaren's Proactive Chassis Control, new suspension and McLaren's power-assisted, electro-hydraulic steering come together to deliver outstanding grip and performance. Inside, the McLaren 720S receives fine leathers and machined aluminium. This hand-crafted luxury is further complemented by provisions such as the new McLaren Driver Interface, which comprises a Folding Driver Display and Central Infotainment Screen.
The McLaren 720S derives power from the new M480T 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine developing a maximum of 710 bhp and 770Nm of torque. The stunning new McLaren delivers truly astonishing performance: it can dispatch the 0 - 100 kmph run in less than 3 seconds and offers a maximum speed of 341 kmph. The McLaren 720S can also come to a halt from 200 kmph in merely 4.6 seconds.
The new McLaren 720S will be offered in three grades of specification: Standard, Performance and Luxury, with prices starting from £208,600 (Rs. 1.69 crore). Available to order from the company's retailers, the 720S's deliveries will begin in May 2017.
