Highlights
- Ducati Superleggera dubbed the 'Project 1408'
- Will be the flagship Ducati superbike when launched
- Made of carbon-fibre and aluminium bits
Ducati will unveil its flagship superbike, the new Superleggera at the EICMA show in Milan next week. Currently called the 'Project 1408', details of the new Superleggera are being revealed on the invite-only, password protected website teasing the bike.
Carbon fibre is used lavishly on the bike, complemented by aluminium, titanium and magnesium, making it a phenomenally lightweight bike.
"Our engineers have once again created a motorcycle that redefines the boundaries of what is possible, turning a dream into reality. The quintessence of Ducati. All aspects of this motorcycle are taken to the maximum expression of what is technically possible today. Unequalled technology and passion in a limited edition for true enthusiasts," said Claudio Domenciali, CEO, Ducati in his welcome letter on the micro site.
The new Superleggera is expected to be powered by a conventional Ducati L-twin, displacing around 1285cc and making over 210bhp. The 1408 gets a carbon monocoque frame, subframe, tail, seat and fairings. The wheels are also made of carbon fibre wheels sporting aluminium hubs. The fuel tank doesn't get carbon fibre but is fabricated from aluminium, making it light and durable.
With high quality bits, the Superleggera is expected to cost quite a bit. It is expected to be a limited edition model, and most accounts peg the expected price at over Rs 50 lakh!
