CNG prices have increased by over Rs 10 per kg since April 1 in Mumbai and Delhi.

Shifting focus to Mumbai, CNG supplier Mahanagar Gas Ltd (MGL) hiked prices for CNG for the second time this month on April 13 by Rs. 5 per kg. The price for CNG on Wednesday morning stood at Rs. 72 per kg as against the previous price of Rs. 67 per kg set on April 6. CNG prices grew a notable Rs. 12 per kg in Mumbai and neighbouring regions since April 1 when MGL reduced CNG prices to Rs. 60 per kg on the back of a reduction in state government tax on the fuel.

The hike in CNG prices is likely to offset some of the expenses incurred by the entities due to the higher cost of natural gas set by the Government of India on April 1. As per reports, the central government doubled the price of natural gas - used in the manufacturing of CNG - for the six-month period starting April 1.
