Highlights

To make the motorcyclist of the future get less and less distracted while riding his/her two-wheeler, BMW Motorrad is bringing its futuristic helmet concept to CES 2016. After introducing a head-up display in its cars back in 2003, BMW now has developed a helmet which projects all the necessary information directly in the rider's field of view.

This innovation will help all riders keep an eye on their surroundings right on their field of vision, that is, on the visor, without looking for the necessary information somewhere else. This innovative head-up display function will tell riders information like the traffic situation ahead, speed limit, road sign recognition, and technical status of the motorcycle such as tyre pressure, oil level, fuel level, travel speed and selected gear. This display is completely adjustable keeping safety of the rider paramount. This means that the rider will see only that information which is relevant to him/her.

The HUD helmet will also let the rider see and record what's ahead and behind using two cameras pointing forward and backward. This technology will also help the rider to see what's happening behind his/her back at any point of time. The helmet will also have an integrated mini-computer and loudspeakers, controls of which will be in the left handlebar's switch cluster.

BMW has also said that it will try to develop this technology as soon as possible so that it is production-ready within the next few years. Once ready, this technology will once again put BMW at the forefront of safety innovations in the automobile world.
