A new, parallel-twin, GS-styled touring motorcycle from BMW has been spied testing in Italy. The bike, sporting alloy 'road' wheels, has styling similar to other GS models from BMW.

According to reports, the spy shot is of one of two models BMW is working on - a 800cc model which will replace the F800 GS, and a 1000cc model which will directly compete with the Honda Africa Twin. Honda's latest adventure bike has been quite the rage in markets abroad, though Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) has yet to launch the bike in India.

The new BMW prototype being spotted testing has a slightly redesigned front end, with a new 'beak' and sharply designed tank extensions. Also new is the swingarm and the rear subframe as are the body panels. The bike in the spy shot has road tyres mounted on alloy wheels, but an off-road variant with spoked wheels and dual sport tyres cannot be ruled out as well.

So far, there's been no word on when the new GS will be production ready, but once launched, the new GS will compete against the Honda Africa Twin, Ducati Multistrada 950 and even the Triumph Tiger 800.
