The BMW G 310 GS is the smallest adventure tourer from BMW Motorrad. The G 310 GS will be launched along with the naked roadster BMW G 310 R, and both bikes are built on the same platform and share the same engine and chassis. As its name suggests, the BMW G 310GS is the adventure touring variant of the made in India G 310 R, and borrows its styling from BMW Motorrad's bigger motorcycles from the GS family. Both bikes are manufactured in India for the world by TVS Motor Company at its production facility in Hosur, Tamil Nadu. Styling and Design

In terms of aesthetics, the BMW G 310 GS borrows heavily from the bigger motorcycles in the GS family. So, there's the familiar beaky front end, dual tone colours, with the big and bold 'GS' graphics on the fuel tank. The G 310 GS is available in a choice of three colours - Racing Red, Pearl White Metallic, and Cosmic Black. The riding position is upright and with the GS ergonomics gives the rider a commanding riding position. The G 310GS is available with a standard seat height of 32.9 inches, and two other seat height options are available as accessories - a lower option with a 32.3 inch seat height and a tall seat with 33.5 inches height.

Engine and Performance

The BMW G310GS shares the same engine as that of the BMW G310R. The 313 cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled, four-valve DOHC engine has the exact same state of tune, making 34 bhp at 9,500 rpm and 28 Nm of peak torque at 7,500 rpm. The engine is paired to a six-speed transmission and the G310GS is claimed to have a top speed of 143 kmph, with fuel consumption figures of 30 kmpl.

Chassis and Suspension

The steel tube chassis of the BMW G310GS is also the same as the G310R, and the suspension is also the same, with a 41 mm upside down front fork and rear monoshock. The only difference is that the suspension on the GS offers increased travel, with both front and rear suspension offering 180 mm of travel. The other difference on the GS is the front wheel size. Unlike the G310R which has 17-inch wheels, the GS comes with a 19-inch front wheel. ABS is standard on the BMW G310GS and can be switched off. The GS though is slightly heavier with a kerb weight of 169.5 kg.

Price and Competition

The BMW G310GS is expected to be priced at around Rs. 3.5 lakh and at that price point, there's no other adventure bike with the performance the G310GS promises to give any real competition. The upcoming KTM 390 Adventure will be the closest rival to the BMW G310GS, but the 390 Adventure will only be launched sometime in 2019.
