Wolfgang Duerheimer, CEO of Bentley, is said to have commented on how work on a fastback version of the Bentayga SUV was under way although the project is yet to be formally given a green light. The luxury SUV market has sprung into action over the last couple of years and the Bentayga is bound to face competition from other carmakers like Rolls Royce, Lamborghini, and Maserati. Bentley will be first to enter the ultraluxury SUV segment once the Bentayga launches this summer although the its rivals are expected to arrive by 2019.
Despite the final design of the sportback variant of the Bentayga yet to be finalised, Duerheimer did hint at the car looking like an coupe-styled SUV version of the stunning EXP 10 Speed 6 Concept which was showcased at the 2015 Geneva International Motor Show. With improved performance figures, the coupe form of the Bentayga is speculated to slot in above its full sized SUV cousin. The EXP 10 Speed 6 is likely to come in below the Continental GT's price tag in Bentley's line-up, if at all it's approved for production.
Bentley has consistently sold over 10,000 units annually over the last 3 years and the company expects 2016 to be even more profitable as its sales figures are likely to receive a timely boost driven by the launch of the Bentayga. The luxury SUV is expected to sell around 5,000 units per year thereby becoming the carmaker's best-selling product.
