Maruti Suzuki India, the country's largest automaker by volume, has reported achieving cumulative sales of 154,379 units in January 2022. Compared to the 160,752 vehicles sold during the same month in 2021, the Indo-Japanese carmaker witnessed a year-on-year decline of nearly 4 per cent. At the same time, compared to the 153,149 units sold in December 2021, the month-on-month difference in sales remained flat. Maruti Suzuki says that the shortage of electronic components had a minor impact on the production of vehicles, mainly affecting domestic numbers.

All that said, we also must consider the fact the long waiting period on Maruti Suzuki cars is deterring consumer sentiments. Additionally, the company is also facing stiff competition from the likes of Tata Motors, which has recorded its highest ever passenger vehicle (PV) sales in January 2022, with a growth of 51 per cent YoY.
