The all-new Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio has become the fastest SUV around Nurburgring, setting a record lap time of 7 minutes and 51.7 seconds, which is the fastest time for a production SUV. The time set by the Stelvio Quadrifoglio is a full 8 seconds faster than the previous record. The driver behind the wheel was Fabio Francia, who also drove the Giulia Quadrifoglio on its record attempt to become the fastest four door sedan on the Nurburgring with a time of 7 minutes and 32 seconds. This means that Alfa Romeo now holds two records at the 'Green Hell'. The Alfa Romeo Stelvio is the first ever SUV from the Italian company in its more than 100-year history.
Powering the Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio is a 2.9-litre V6 engine which is twin-turbocharged and makes over 500 bhp and 587 Nm of peak torque. The engine is paired to an 8-speed transmission, which can shift gears in less than 150 milliseconds in the race mode. The company says that the SUV has a perfect 50:50 weight distribution which results in precise handling. Also, the Stelvio has segment-leading torsional rigidity along with a carbon-fibre driveshaft.
There are other features such as torque vectoring differential, adaptive suspension, cylinder deactivation along with four driving modes. One can also choose from a variety of optional fittings such as carbon-fibre shell Sparco racing seats and Brembo carbon ceramic brakes on the Stelvio Quadrifoglio.
