Triumph Motorcycles has globally unveiled the all-new Triumph Tiger 1200, which boasts of being significantly lighter, more powerful, with class leading handling. The new Tiger 1200 is a completely new motorcycle from the ground up, featuring an all-new triple engine with more power, a new chassis and less weight. Like the Tiger 900, the 2022 Triumph Tiger 1200 will be offered in two broad ranges, with the Tiger 1200 GT range being more road-oriented, while the Tiger 1200 Rally range will be more off-road oriented. The GT range will feature 19-inch front and 18-inch rear cast aluminium wheels, while the Rally range will be designed for all-terrain duties, with a 21-inch front and 18-inch rear, tubeless spoked wheels.

The 2022 Triumph Tiger 1200 family is spread across the GT, GT Pro, Rally, Rally Pro, as well as GT Explorer and Rally Explorer variants.

At the heart of the new Tiger 1200 is an all-new 1,160 cc, triple engine, with the new T-plane crank, with uneven firing order, which is said to enhance low down tractability and responsiveness, as well as more exciting and engaging mid-range performance to top-end response and feel. Putting out 148 bhp at 9,000 rpm and 130 Nm of peak torque at 7,000 rpm, the new engine is claimed to have better acceleration, and also features a new lightweight, low maintenance shaft drive.

Both the Tiger 1200 GT and Rally families feature, for the first time, two all-new 30-litre tank Tiger 1200 GT Explorer and Tiger 1200 Rally Explorer options. The Tiger 1200 GT, 1200 GT Pro, as well as the 1200 Rally and 1200 Rally Pro come with 20-litre fuel tanks. According to Triumph, the fuel tank material is all-aluminium, offering a lower centre of gravity than the previous generation Tiger 1200 models. Overall, the new Tiger 1200 is a massive 25 kg lighter than the previous generation models.

The 2022 Triumph Tiger 1200 is 25 kg lighter than the previous generation model, with a lighter chassis, aluminium fuel tank, and features Showa semi-active suspension, Brembo Stylema brakes.

The all-new light weight chassis includes an aluminium frame with bolt-on rear aluminium subframe and pillion hangers, as well as a new lighter and stronger 'tri-link' swingarm. The new frame is 5.4 kg lighter than the previous generation model. The Tiger 1200 also features category-leading Brembo Stylema monobloc brakes, as well as optimized cornering ABS, powered by an inertial measurement unit (IMU). Suspension is advanced Showa semi-active set-up tuned for maximum road and off-road capability.

The new Tiger 1200 also features all-new Triumph Blind Spot Radar System, developed in partnership with Continental, and offered only in the GT Explorer and Rally Explorer models. Up to six riding modes are available, which adjust throttle response, ABS, traction control and suspension settings for maximum rider control in all riding conditions. The Off-Road Pro riding mode, exclusive to the Rally Pro and Rally Explorer models, is Triumph's most extreme off-road set-up for advanced off-road adventure, with ABS and traction control turned off, and an off-road throttle map. Rain mode has been tailored to deliver the most intervention and is limited to 100PS for enhanced safety and control when conditions are compromised.

Electronics includes upto six riding modes, standard quickshifter, and cornering ABS and cornering traction control.

The electronics suite includes cornering ABS and cornering traction control as well, along with hill-hold system and standard quickshifter (not available on the GT). All key information can be accessed through the 7-inch instrument console, with the My Triumph Connectivity System fitted as standard on all models, enabling phone calls, turn-by-turn navigation and GoPro control. The new Triumph Tiger 1200 range comes with a 3 years, unlimited kilometres mileage warranty, and the option to extend, while maintenance will be low with high service intervals of every 12 months or 16,000 kiometres.

The new Triumph Tiger 1200 is expected to be launched in India sometime in the first quarter of 2022, with prices expected to range from Rs. 15 lakh (Ex-showroom) for the base GT model (if that is offered on sale in India), going up to around Rs. 20 lakh (Ex-showroom) for the top-spec Tiger 1200 Rally Explorer. For India though, Triumph may skip the base GT model, offering the Tiger 1200 GT Pro, Rally Pro and Rally Explorer models. Prices for India will be announced when the new Tiger 1200 range is launched in India.
