Given that the full-size adventure motorcycle segment has some rather capable offerings, the new Tiger 1200 definitely needs to be a step-up over its predecessor. 1. New Engine
The new Triumph Tiger 1200 is powered by the 1,160 cc, inline-three cylinder, liquid-cooled engine. The motor gets a T-plane triple crank with an uneven firing order that promises to enhance low-end tractability and responsiveness. It gets a lightweight low maintenance shaft drive. The motor has also been optimised for a more responsive mid and top-end power delivery, along with improved acceleration. Triumph also says the engine offers a more characterful and distinctive exhaust note. The three-pot mill produces 147 bhp at 9,000 rpm and 130 Nm of peak torque at 7,000 rpm. The power is sent to the rear wheel via a shaft drive system with a 6-speed gearbox in place.

2. New Chassis, Less Weight
The 2022 Tiger 1200 gets a new lightweight frame with a bolt-on aluminium subframe. It also gets pillion hangers and a tri-link swingarm. The new chassis aims to reduce the weight on the motorcycle with the frame shedding about 5.4 kg over the older version.
Triumph has also worked on reducing the overall weight on the motorcycle by a whopping 25 kg over its predecessor by employing lighter components. The bike also gets a single-sided swingarm and an aluminium fuel tank as part of the weight-saving efforts. When compared to competition with shaft drives, Triumph says the bike is about 17 kg lighter.
The suspension set-up comes from Showa with a semi-active unit on the off-road versions for more control. The braking unit includes dual 320 mm discs with top-spec Brembo Stylema callipers at the front and a 282 mm single rotor at the rear.
3. New Design
The Triumph Tiger 1200 looks sharper, sleeker and more chiselled than before. The new headlamp unit looks sharp and comes with an integrated LED DRL, while the semi-fairing, split saddle and tall-set exhaust scream adventure. The tall windscreen is functional on the motorcycle. The overall look is more upright and commanding than before, while the clean lines make for a more contemporary look.
Styling also differs depending on the variant you choose. For instance, the Tiger 1200 GT family is designed for a more road-biased style, whereas the Rally family gets a more off-road look and stance. The Tiger 1200 Rally also gets a 21-inch spoked wheel.
The new generation model features a much slimmer waist and more compact design with a narrower standover. This will help riders to put their feet on the floor easily and also conveniently move around when riding.
4. Updated Electronics
The technology package is extensive on the new Triumph Tiger 1200. Most notably, the GT Explorer and Rally Explorer vartiants exclusively feature the all-new Triumph blind spot radar system, developed in partnership with Continental. The system is similar to that the Ducati Multistrada V4's. It lets the rider know when another vehicle is in their blind spot, while the Lane Change Assist feature will give a prominent warning if the rider changes lanes and there is another vehicle approaching.
The electronics package is powered by an inertial measurement unit (IMU), with cornering traction control system, cornering ABS, six riding modes, and an electronic suspension system. The seven-inch colour-TFT display offers control to all settings and comes with Bluetooth connectivity with turn-by-turn navigation and GoPro control.
The new Tiger 1200 range include full-LED lighting, adaptive cornering lights, keyless system, heated grips and heated seats, tyre pressure monitoring system and hill hold. There's also Triumph Shift Assist and heated grips.
5. New Variants & Expected India Prices
The 2022 Triumph Tiger 1200 will arrive in two main variants - Rally and GT. The Tiger 1200 GT runs on a more road-biased setup riding on 19-inch front and 18-inch rear wheels and shod in Metzeler Tourance tyres. The Rally variants get a longer travel suspension and 21-inch front and 18-inch rear wheels that feature a cross-spoke design. The off-road versions come with Metzeler Karoo street tyres with the Michelin Anakee rubber as optional.
The Tiger 1200 GT range includes three variants - GT, GT Pro and GT Explorer. Similarly, the Rally variants include - Rally Pro and Rally Explorer. The Explorer variants of both models get a 30-litre fuel tank as opposed to a 20-litre unit on other models.
The new Triumph Tiger 1200 is likely to arrive in India next year and the bike is expected to start from Rs. 18 lakh (ex-showroom) onwards.
