The 2022 Honda Civic Sedan made its global debut in April this year and now it's time for us to see the new Honda Civic Hatchback. Honda has finally taken the wraps off the Civic Hatchback as well and though it doesn't look very different than the sedan, there are few elements which are new starting with the hatch that replaces the boot in the sedan version. In terms of styling, the hatchback is the sportier looking version and is for those who want a comparatively smaller and sportier car, without compromising on performance of quality.

The front end of the Civic Hatch has a different grille than the sedan and incorporates hexagonal openings instead of the horizontal slats from the four-door. Obviously, changes at the rear are more substantial with the sloping roofline neatly integrating with its tail. The hatch is more compact to look at courtesy the rear overhang and overall length that are 124 mm shorter than the sedan's. The taillights have a bar running the width of the tail, whereas the sedan has separate lamps on each side. With the hatch up, the opening is 41 mm wider than the previous-gen Civic Hatchback. That said, the cargo space drops slightly to 694 litres as compared to 723 litres of its predecessor.
The new Civic Hatch is identical to its sedan on the inside. It looks good with digital displays and a sophisticated dash wearing honeycomb-mesh trim spanning its length. It's nicely equipped as well, with an updated version of the Honda Sensing safety suite of systems. The LX, Sport, and EX-L trims get a get a 7.0-inch touchscreen display and a 7.0-inch instrument panel while the Sport Touring gets a bigger 10.2-inch infotainment touchscreen and a 9.0-inch instrument panel. The feature list is quite exhaustive as well with a 12-speaker Bose stereo and plenty of luxury items for an executive hatch. It's also shares quite a few safety features from the sedan like a single camera and eight sonar sensors. There's also traffic jam assist, low-speed braking control, and front and rear false-start prevention. The car also gets upgraded versions of adaptive cruise control and linear steering from lane-keeping assist. And the new Civic also gets rear-seat side airbags for the first time taking the total number of airbags to 10.
Interestingly, you'll be able to order the Civic Hatchback with a six-speed manual gearbox and it will be mated to the Civic Sport trim with a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder, naturally aspirated motor that puts out 156 bhp and 187 Nm of peak torque. The three-pedal layout will also be offered on the 1.5-litre, four-cylinder turbocharged mill making 177 bhp and 240 Nm of peak torque. A CVT is offered on all models and is the only choice on the LX and EX-L grades. The Sport or Sport Touring models get the same gearbox with paddle shifters.
