The 5-star safety rating winner, Toyota Vios, which is made in Thailand, comes fitted with seven airbags that are standard across all variants. Furthermore, the Vios sedan also gets a bunch of other active safety features as standard like - seatbelt reminder for driver and front passenger, electronic stability control (ESC) and anti-lock braking system (ABS). For child protection the car also gets ISOFIX and top tether are standard across variants.
In front impact test, both the driver's head and knee protection levels were good, but the chest and lower leg protection were only adequate. Protection levels for the front passenger's head, chest and left knee were good, but surprisingly protection to the right knee was just marginal. Similar to the driver, protection levels for the front passenger's lower legs were also rated as adequate. On the other hand, during side impact test protection levels for the driver's head and upper body were rated as good.
Interestingly, the Toyota Vios was the first car to be officially crash tested by ASEAN NCAP back in 2012 and even back then the car has scored a 4-star safety rating for adult occupancy and 2 starts for child occupant protection. The Toyota Vios tested here is the latest 2018 year model which has been manufactured this year and comes with a total kerb weight of the vehicle was 1,115 kg. The sedan is powered by a 1.5-litre petrol engine that makes 106 bhp and 140 Nm of peak torque.
Toyota India has been testing the Vios in the country for a while now and launch in slated for 2018
Now, we have been expected the Toyota Vios to be launched in India for a while now and over the past one year several test mules of the car has also been spotted in the country. We were the first ones to tell you that the Vios sedan will be launched in India next year, about 2 month after its official debut at the 2018 Auto Expo. Engine details are still unknown but we might get the 1.5-litre petrol engine like the other markets along with a diesel version, exclusive for the Indian market, powered by the 1.4 litre oil-burner that powers the Etios and Corolla.
The India-spec Vios will likely get ABS with EBD, traction control, ISOFIX mounts for child seats, and dual airbags as standard and the top variants could boast brake assist and ESP (stability control). We expect similar level of safety rating for the India-spec model as well. Upon its launch, the Vios is a compact sedan and will be going up against the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Honda City, and the new-generation Hyundai Verna.
