Highlights

Kawasaki has introduced a new, 125cc mini motorcycle, aiming to tap into a segment which is largely dominated by the popular Honda Grom. Like the hugely popular Grom, the Z125 Pro will target new riders and anyone looking for a fun little ride.

The Kawasaki Z125 Pro is powered by a four stroke, single-cylinder, SOHC, 2-valve, air-cooled, fuel-injected engine tuned for responsive acceleration on the street. The engine is mated to a traditional four-speed transmission but it features a link-type shifter like larger capacity sportbikes.

Weighing just over 100kg, the Kawasaki Z125 Pro comes equipped with a LCD instrument panel which displays fuel level, clock, trip meter in addition to the speedo. What it doesn't get is a gear indicator, which the Grom has. The overall look is similar to Kawasaki's larger bikes in the Z series, with a similar LED taillight.

Braking is managed by a single 200mm petal-type disc at the front and a single 184mm petal-type disc at the rear. The suspension consists of 30mm inverted forks at the front and a single offset rear shock with four-way preload adjustability. The 12-inch aluminium wheels are shod with 100/90 tyres at the front and 120/70 at the rear.

The mini motos are quite popular in markets abroad, including in South East Asian countries as well as in the US. The Honda Grom is hugely popular, particularly in the US where in certain dealers it even commands a waiting period.

It's not clear yet whether Kawasaki will be looking at introducing the Z125 Pro in the Indian market. Late last year, Kawasaki introduced the KLX 110 a mini off-road bike for beginners and off-road enthusiasts and even children and teenagers. The KLX 110 is not road-legal which makes it usable only on private tracks. We sure hope Kawasaki will be bringing in the Z125 Pro as well. And going by the response to Honda's new mini moto-scooter Navi, the Z125 Pro does seem to make sense to test the waters.
