Highlights

Buoyed by a positive and record breaking 2015, Mercedes-Benz India is looking forward to retaining its number one position this year as well and has twelve new launches planned for the 2016. Keeping up with the SUV rage, the automaker will introduce its flagship GLS (GL-Class) luxury SUV in India later this year and has imported the model in the country for homologation. This definitely makes things interesting as the model will rival the new generation Audi Q7 and Volvo XC90 in the segment

The model imported in India is the Mercedes-Benz GLS 350d, which is the diesel variant and draws power from a 3.0-litre V6 engine tuned to produce 255bhp while developing 616Nm of torque. Power is sent to all four wheels using the 4MATIC AWD system via the new 9-speed automatic transmission that replaces the 7-speed unit. It is possible that Mercedes will schedule it sometime in April.

Talking about the Mercedes-Benz GLS facelift, the flagship luxury SUV is considered to be the full sized equivalent of the S-Class in terms of luxury and now looks as well as borrowing the automaker's new design language. The SUV gets a toned down front fascia with more elegant lines, revised bumper and new Multi-beam LED headlights with DRLs. The twin-slat grille has been reworked further adding to the imposing presence of the SUV. The side profile remains largely the same, save for the new alloy wheels, whereas the rear sports revised LED tail lights and bumper and chrome finished dual exhausts.

Inside the cabin, the 2017 Mercedes GLS remains a 7-seater while upgrades include the new floating tablet infotainment screen, new touch pad controller, revised multi-function steering wheel and switchgear across the cabin. The interiors are now upholstered premium Nappa leather. The new model also comes with the Airmatic suspension for improved cabin comfort. Other standard safety features include Collision Prevention Assist, Distronic Plus, Attention Assist, Active Lane Assist, Pre-Safe braking and much more. The GLS will also be assembled at the Chakan facility like the outgoing model.
