The new Mercedes-Benz GLC, competing with formidable adversaries like the BMW X3 and Audi Q5, carves its unique niche in the market. While it may not exhibit the razor-sharp reflexes of Thor or the rugged resilience of Hulk, it excels in delivering a balanced performance reminiscent of Captain America. It combines power and grace, enabling a seamless cruising experience complemented by refined body dynamics. Inside, it offers a level of pampering that satisfies the discerning tastes. This balanced blend of attributes is precisely what appeals to a majority of buyers, making the GLC a compelling choice in its segment.
Mercedes-Benz GLC: A Refined Road Conqueror
Mercedes-Benz, a hallmark of luxury and innovation, has always been at the forefront of engineering marvels. The GLC, a prime example, has been an embodiment of sophistication and performance since its inception. Succeeding the GLK and finding its sweet spot between the GLA-Class and GLE-Class, the GLC had not only conquered global markets but was also the beacon of luxury SUVs in India. After being Mercedes’ global bestseller for two consecutive years, the much-awaited second generation of the GLC is now here. Bridging the gap between the 3-row GLB and the GLE, this new iteration promises to bring a fresh wave of excitement for automobile enthusiasts.
With the second-generation GLC, the design takes a leap forward. While the SUV retains its signature stance, it’s now enveloped in a more streamlined, road-hugging silhouette, striking a perfect balance between ruggedness and elegance. The enhanced length, which interestingly is more than even the Tata Safari, isn’t just for aesthetics but also adds a functional advantage in terms of space. The larger grille, adorned with a prominent three-pointed star, is a sight to behold. It seamlessly merges with the revamped LED headlamps, giving the face a modern, yet timeless appeal. The chrome underguards and polished aluminium roof railings hint at the GLC’s off-road prowess, while the 3D wraparound tail lamps at the rear elevate its sophistication.
Step inside the GLC, and you’re immediately embraced by an atmosphere of luxury and cutting-edge technology. The interior echoes design elements from its sedan counterpart, the C-Class. Dominating the dashboard is an impressive 11.9-inch floating touchscreen, seamlessly integrated with the latest generation MBUX infotainment system. The system doesn’t just play your favorite tunes but can also connect to smart home systems, enhancing the user experience. For audiophiles, the optional 15-speaker Burmester surround sound system promises an immersive audio journey.
The cabin, benefiting from the increased length, offers more room, ensuring a comfortable ride for all occupants. The seats have been meticulously crafted, providing both support and comfort. Despite the generous legroom and headroom, the GLC is best experienced with four passengers, ensuring optimum comfort. The rear seating could use a bit more recline, but the expansive legroom somewhat compensates for it. With three interior and five exterior color options, owners can customize the GLC to their liking. Practicality is further enhanced with features like a powered tailgate, and while the international model boasts optional front massage seats, the Indian version promises other real-world conveniences.
Mercedes-Benz has always been a pioneer in car safety, and the GLC upholds this legacy impressively. It comes equipped with a plethora of safety features, starting with seven airbags strategically placed around the cabin to shield occupants from all angles. Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) ensures optimal braking under sudden halts. The vehicle prides itself on integrating advanced mechanisms like the Electronic Stability Program (ESP) and Traction Control System (TCS), which synergize to uphold the vehicle’s balance during demanding driving scenarios. Complementing its futuristic tech suite are features such as Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Departure Alert, and a comprehensive 360-degree parking visualization tool. An inclusion is the forward collision avoidance assist, which is adept at curtailing potential subsequent collision hazards.
Under the GLC’s hood lies a powerhouse. Tailored for the nuanced Indian automotive landscape, the GLC is available with two distinct powertrain configurations – a refined 2.0L four-cylinder petrol engine and a robust 2.0L four-cylinder diesel variant. These engines harmoniously pair with a sophisticated 9-speed automatic drivetrain, allowing fluidic gear transitions. The petrol variant is engineered to produce a commendable 197hp complemented by 320Nm of torque, whereas the diesel counterpart exudes a substantial 245hp and a staggering 500Nm of torque. Demonstrating its prowess, this SUV is capable of achieving the 0 to 100 km/h mark in a swift 7.8 seconds, and can effortlessly reach a top speed of 215 kmph, ensuring urban manoeuvrability and effortless highway journeys.
The GLC’s adaptive suspension system allows for a supple ride over rough patches while maintaining body control during high-speed maneuvers. The well-calibrated steering system offers ample feedback, striking a balance between city drivability and highway stability. The drive modes—Eco, Comfort, Sport, and Sport+—tailor the SUV’s behavior according to the driver’s preference, be it fuel efficiency, comfort, or spirited driving. With an excellent road grip and minimal body roll, the GLC provides a driving experience that feels planted and reassuring.
In the realm of premium vehicles, the Mercedes-Benz GLC justifies its stature with a pricing structure reflective of its opulence and dynamism. It is sold in two variants: a GLC 300 4MATIC and a GLC 220d 4MATIC priced at Rs 73.5 lakh and Rs 74.5 lakh, respectively.
The variants are a standard fit laden with loads of safety features, a sophisticated infotainment system, and an interior that’s a testament to craftsmanship and elegance. All you have to do is to pick from a petrol or a diesel engine option.
Navigating the intricate world of India’s luxury SUV market isn’t an easy task, with heavyweights like the BMW X3, Audi Q5, and Volvo XC60 in the scenery. Yet, amidst this stiff competition, the Mercedes-Benz GLC finds its footing effortlessly.

Apart from the new features, the SUV remains identical to the 2020 model and continues to draw power from the 2.0-litre turbo petrol on the GLC 200 that develops 194 bhp and 320 Nm of peak torque. The GLC 220d gets a 2.0-litre diesel motor with 192 bhp and 400 Nm of peak torque. Both engines are paired with a 9G-Tronic automatic transmission, while the diesel also gets 4MATIC AWD.

Key Features of Mercedes-Benz GLC
Comfort & Convenience
Instrumentation & Communication
Safety & Security
- MBUX Touch Control Concept
So absorbing that it’s hard to leave alone. The sophisticated MBUX touch control concept lets you determine exactly what it shows you and how you control it. As intuitively as on a smartphone. Either with the new touchpad with haptic feedback, or by using the Touch Control buttons on the new steering wheel, or on the touchscreen. The choice is yours.
- MBUX Voice Control
It’s always best to talk. The MBUX (Mercedes-Benz User Experience) infotainment system with intuitive voice control is optionally available for the new GLC. It understands what you say and obeys your commands using natural speech recognition. It takes only two words: “Hey Mercedes.” And the new GLC is all ears.
- Massage Seats, front
Individually adjustable air chambers adapt themselves like a tailor-made suit. You can adjust the backrest bolsters so that they are particularly firm, this improves lateral support for sporty driving maneuvers. Chambers which inflate and deflate alternately in turn create a massage effect in the lumbar area.
- THERMATIC automatic climate control
Individual climate comfort in the front seats comes courtesy of the THERMATIC automatic climate control with 2 climate zones: the driver and front passenger can set the temperature separately for each side. This is maintained at a constant level thanks to automatic climate control and a sensitive sensor system – completely without any need for manual adjustment. The desired climate can be achieved quickly thanks to the convenient and intuitive temperature and ventilation control – and always remains at the selected level even during changing weather conditions and varying levels of sunlight. Especially for the driver, the constantly balanced interior climate has a positive effect on concentration and fitness.
- 2 USB ports in the rear
Using the two USB Type C ports in the rear, your passengers can charge mobile devices while on the move and therefore use them for longer. As such, there is always sufficient battery charge available even on longer journeys, for example for watching films or browsing the internet on such devices.
- Mercedes-Benz emergency call system
The Mercedes-Benz emergency call system can save you vital minutes in an emergency. If an accident is detected, a communications module with its own SIM card automatically triggers an emergency call which can shorten the time until the rescue services arrive.
- Hard-Disc Navigation
Save time through fast hard disk navigation with flexible inputs via touch control or voice input. In this connection, the 3D displays of points of interest, for example, are also a visual delight. The intelligent system guides you reliably to your destination using both local and the most recent online data.
- PRE-SAFE System
With PRE-SAFE® the front seat belts can be electrically pretensioned in hazardous situations. As a result, the forward displacement of the occupants during braking or skidding can be reduced in an impending accident. In certain situations, the side windows or panoramic roof close automatically.
- Active Parking Assist with parktronic
Turn the stress of tight parking spaces into effortless calm. Active Parking Assist with PARKTRONIC is not only able to find parking spaces – it also helps you to enter and leave them. As part of this it helps you with steering, and on vehicles with automatic transmission also with accelerating, braking, and changing gear.
- Parking Package with 360-degree camera
Manoeuvre effortlessly, park precisely: With the 360° camera you have a view of every angle around your vehicle and you can master even narrower or angled parking spaces.
- Kneebag
The kneebag protects your legs from contact with the steering column or the dashboard in a severe frontal crash. This can prevent or lessen the severity of injuries. The air cushion inflates in milliseconds and stabilizes the whole body. This ensures that the entire restraint system including the seat belt works together optimally.

I, Nilmoney Roy would first like to establish that I am the proud owner of 3 Mercedes Benz’s; a 1962 model, a 1965 model and a GLC 220 D. On my 82nd Birthday last August 2017 my son gifted me a GLC 220 D from your Kolkata branch. It is with deep regret that I have drafted this letter. My GLC has not been equipped with a standard GPS navigation system. It is appalling that such a premium car does not have a basic feature, a feature found in almost any car in this day and age of technology of much lower valuation. To further establish my concern and in hopes of correcting the situation, I contacted the Kolkata establishment of Mercedes Benz. I spoke to Mr. Sourav Rahan (Sales Manager), where I raised my concerns and was swiftly told that the GPS Navigation System would come at an additional cost. To my utter surprise, a car worth Rs. 50 Lakh requires additional payments for a proper and a normal experience. A system worth Rs. 40,000 is a small fraction of what the car costs and is not the problem for a consumer like me. The problem is that a car worth this amount must be equipped with the basic requirements and the fee for such requirements must be included in the initial total fee. An additional fee, for a navigation system, for a car worth this immense amount is most certainly not necessary The principle of selling a car, without a navigation system, and then including it as an additional payment is what is wrong with the company’s policy, something I would like to shed some light upon. I would like a prompt and satisfactory response along with a solution to my aforementioned concerns and I hope this letter is read with the seriousness with which it has been written with.
