Expert Review on Mahindra XUV300
Pros
- The 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine delivers an impressive 128 bhp and 230 Nm of torque, making it the most powerful subcompact SUV in India.
- It features an overboost function that provides an extra 20 Nm of torque for short bursts, enhancing overtaking capabilities and overall performance.
- The suspension system is well-tuned, providing a smooth ride over rough roads, and the car maintains stability even at high speed
Cons
- There is noticeable turbo lag, especially during initial acceleration, which can make city driving feel less responsive.
- The long gear throws and clutch travel can feel cumbersome, especially in heavy traffic, reducing driving comfort.
- The cabin lacks key modern features like wireless charging, wireless smartphone integration, and ventilated seats, which are now common in competitors.
The Mahindra XUV300 TurboSport offers an exhilarating driving experience, thanks to its powerful engine and impressive performance features. While it has some downsides, such as turbo lag and missing cabin tech, it remains a compelling choice for those seeking a sporty, performance-oriented subcompact SUV. With competitive pricing and solid road performance, it’s a great option for buyers who prioritize power and driving dynamics over additional features.
The Mahindra XUV300 TurboSport aims to set new benchmarks in the subcompact SUV space, thanks to its powerful engine and sporty features. Initially launched as a variant of the XUV300, the TurboSport targets buyers looking for performance-oriented driving without compromising on the utility of an SUV. With a starting price of ₹10.35 lakh (ex-showroom), the XUV300 TurboSport is the most powerful SUV in its class, offering a thrilling driving experience coupled with Mahindra’s signature ruggedness and practicality.
In terms of design, the XUV300 TurboSport retains the same styling as the standard XUV300, with a few cosmetic updates that distinguish it as a sportier version. Mahindra has incorporated red accents and its new twin-peaks logo to highlight the TurboSport’s power-focused character. The Blazing Bronze color option is new and exclusive to this variant.
Design Aspect | Details |
---|---|
Front Fascia | Retains the bold, muscular look with twin peaks logo and red accents |
Color Options | New Blazing Bronze with monotone and dual-tone combinations |
Wheels & Tyres | Standard alloy wheels, but no significant updates from the base model |
Although the design changes are minimal, the TurboSport’s overall aesthetic gives it a sportier feel, but it still lacks the aggressiveness seen in other performance variants from competitors.
The XUV300 TurboSport is powered by a 1.2-liter turbocharged petrol engine that makes it the most powerful subcompact SUV in India. The engine produces 128 bhp and 230 Nm of torque, with an additional 20 Nm overboost function for short bursts of acceleration. This powertrain is mated to a 6-speed manual transmission, which offers a more engaging driving experience.
Engine Specs | Details |
---|---|
Engine | 1.2L 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine |
Power | 128 bhp @ 5000 rpm |
Torque | 230 Nm @ 1500-3750 rpm |
Transmission | 6-speed manual |
0-100 km/h | 10.9 seconds |
- Driving Experience: The TurboSport variant delivers exciting performance, especially in the 1750-3800 rpm range, where the turbocharged engine feels lively. The overboost function adds an extra layer of fun, especially when shifting between gears 2 and 6. However, there is a slight turbo lag at lower RPMs, which can make initial acceleration feel sluggish.
The manual transmission works well with the turbocharged engine, but some drivers may miss the option of an automatic transmission, which isn’t available in this variant.
One of the key strengths of the XUV300 is its ride quality, and the TurboSport carries forward this trait without any changes to its suspension setup. The suspension is well-tuned to handle uneven roads and potholes, offering a comfortable ride for passengers.
Riding Aspect | Details |
---|---|
Suspension | Unchanged from the base variant, designed to absorb bumps effectively |
Handling | Soft suspension, with some body roll during aggressive cornering |
Gear Shifts | Manual transmission with longer throws, clutch travel is on the heavier side |
The gear throws are longer than expected for a sporty variant, and the clutch’s long travel might make driving in traffic a bit tedious. While the suspension ensures comfort over rough roads, there is noticeable body roll when taking sharp corners.
Inside, the TurboSport maintains the same cabin as the standard XUV300, with an all-black interior giving it a slightly sportier ambiance. While the seating comfort is excellent, thanks to the large seats and spacious interior, there are certain misses in terms of feature offerings.
Comfort Feature | Details |
---|---|
Seating | Spacious cabin with leatherette upholstery, large comfortable seats |
Climate Control | Dual-zone climate control |
Other Comforts | Sunroof, auto headlamps, and wipers, but lacks ventilated seats and wireless charging |
Although the XUV300 TurboSport comes with premium features like dual-zone climate control and a sunroof, it lacks key modern amenities such as wireless smartphone integration and ventilated seats, which are available in competing models.
While the TurboSport variant boasts plenty of safety and convenience features, the technology on offer could have been more comprehensive to match the sporty character of the car.
Tech Feature | Details |
---|---|
Infotainment System | Standard system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, but lacks wireless charging |
Safety Features | All-wheel disc brakes, auto headlamps, wipers, and dual airbags |
Other Features | Sunroof, keyless entry, and a reverse camera, but no ventilated seats or ADAS features |
The infotainment system supports smartphone integration, but the lack of wireless charging and other modern conveniences puts it behind its competitors. However, the all-wheel disc brakes and standard safety features ensure that the TurboSport performs well in terms of safety.
Considering the performance-oriented nature of the TurboSport variant, the fuel efficiency is decent for a 1.2L turbocharged petrol engine.
Fuel Efficiency | Details |
---|---|
City Driving | Approx. 11-12 km/l |
Highway Driving | Approx. 14-15 km/l |
While these numbers are not class-leading, they are respectable for a turbocharged engine that focuses on performance. The overboost function does affect fuel consumption when used frequently
Priced between ₹10.35 lakh and ₹12.90 lakh (ex-showroom), the XUV300 TurboSport offers a significant performance upgrade for a marginal increase in price over the standard XUV300. However, given that it lacks certain high-tech features, some buyers might feel that the price is slightly high for what’s on offer.
| Price Range | ₹10.35 lakh - ₹12.90 lakh (ex-showroom) | | Recommended Variant | W8 (O) for a balance of performance and features |
The W8 (O) variant is recommended for buyers who want the full range of features along with the added performance of the TurboSport engine
The Mahindra XUV300 TurboSport competes with other powerful subcompact SUVs in India, such as the Hyundai Venue N Line and the Tata Nexon.
Competitor | Comparison |
---|---|
Hyundai Venue N Line | More refined but less powerful, comes with more tech features |
Tata Nexon | Offers better feature-packed variants at a lower price, but with less power |
While the Hyundai Venue N Line offers more refinement and tech, the XUV300 TurboSport is the most powerful SUV in its class, catering to buyers who prioritize performance.
The Mahindra XUV300 TurboSport is an exciting option for those who want a powerful subcompact SUV with engaging driving dynamics. However, the lack of certain features, such as ventilated seats and wireless charging, puts it slightly behind its competitors in terms of overall value. That said, for buyers focused on performance and driving pleasure, the XUV300 TurboSport is hard to beat.

Bought XUV300 W6 D sunroof variant. I feel it as a value for money. Good Spacious for our 4 adults and 2 kids. Boot space is sufficient since we use mostly soft bags with 1 Trally. Confidence in driving and safety on highways. Mileage: AFE in odometer shows 21 to 22 but real world Tank to tank we achieve 19kmpl. Customer support was conscious in calling but poor in taking Action. Just like Hyundai. Service&Spares-No information since I run just about 5000+kms. Lighting shall be improved a lot. Audio system was decent overall I have pleasure driving 1250kms at a stretch for a 16hrs journey with 3 intervals. Vehicle is for Driving enthusiasts.

I had purchased W4 diesel 11 days ago driven 1180 km mixed drive conditions -city and highway. Car has a nice road grip, engine is powerful, body roll is very less. Although there are many competitors but this car has made its presence felt. The car is very spacious though the boot is little small. Ride and handling is awesome

Very powerful in its class. Even at 160 kmph it doesn't vibrate and is steady..Only negative point is the boot space. This is mainly due to the long wheelbase. Very comfortable and enough leg space inside. Even after driving 500 Kms one doesn't get tired.
